The Global Sustainability Associate Manager is responsible for leading the execution of Sustainability Product Pillar’s public goals and internal initiatives, including greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction across the whole product lifecycle, linking product roadmap and sales mix to projected reductions, support GHG tracking for products, facilitating Design for Sustainability efforts, and lead packaging related goals, compliance and cost improvement/waste reduction projects. A successful candidate brings experience in product management and/or product engineering, new product introduction and knowledge on product efficiency and sustainability features. He or she monitors and understands compliance requirements related to product and packaging and can provide guidance and project management to set and achieve Sustainability goals and initiatives that support Rheem’s positioning as the sustainability leader of the air and water industry.
This position will serve our Enterprise division located in Sandy Springs, Atlanta, Georgia (Onsite).
Serve as the enterprise lead for Sustainability Product Pillar goals and other cost/waste reduction initiatives, which have a global scope.
Support tracking and accounting of product-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, primarily use-phase (Scope 3.11), and lead projections/forecasts towards meeting reduction targets taking business growth, products’ sales mix and roadmap into account.
Build and maintain strong relationships with Sustainability Product Ambassadors at global sites.
Facilitate adoption of Design for Sustainability process within PDP, providing guidance and support to development teams. Advise on frameworks, tools, and process maps to increasingly integrate sustainability design considerations into the product development process.
Lead execution on Packaging related goal, optimizing towards Sustainable packaging in collaboration with Packaging Engineering, Procurement and other stakeholders, and lead compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations, leading internal task force towards required reporting and identification of cost/fee reduction opportunities.
Present sustainability data, metrics and project updates to senior leadership.
Liaise with internal functional leaders and SMEs to ensure that emerging sustainability-related issues are identified, and business strategies and initiatives modified as needed to close any gaps and create long-term value.
Analyze and present sustainability-related industry, economic, technological, and competitor trends and make recommendations regarding Rheem’s sustainability strategy in the short and long term.
Support other sustainability initiatives as needed, leveraging analytical skills to quantify environmental and business impacts.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, chemical, environmental, etc.), or environmental/sustainability science.
A minimum of 5 years of experience working on product management and/or product development and engineering and/or environmental/sustainability projects.
Experience in product-related optimization projects, including cost improvement, competitive benchmarking, packaging optimization.
Preferred experience in greenhouse gas accounting (scopes 1, 2, and 3) and emissions forecasting.
Preferred knowledge of sustainable product manufacturing, product certifications related to energy efficiency and/or sustainability and environmental management standards.
Experience with global manufacturing companies and/or companies with geographically and functionally diverse operations.
Proven experience successfully managing entire projects or processes across multiple regions.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
Strong organizational skills and flexibility; superior attention to detail and excellent project management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build productive cross-functional relationships and thrive in a collaborative and team-oriented environment to accomplish objectives.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an aptitude for breaking down complex ideas into simple terms.
Sound judgment and initiative to actively pursue high levels of performance and complete projects promptly.
Ability to effectively present to and influence internal stakeholders at various levels through strategic engagement and building/sharing a business case for initiatives.
Up-to-date knowledge and technical skills required to design, manage, and optimize sustainability systems/frameworks.
Knowledge of industrial process efficiency and productivity.
Strong statistical skills applied to environmental database management.
Mastery of Microsoft Office software suite.
Ability to travel in the US and globally and work across global time zones.
HOW TO STAND OUT:
Master’s degree in engineering, product management, science, sustainability, or related field.
HVAC and/or water heating industry experience.
Experience with decarbonization products (heat pump, solar, etc.).
Experience using Life Cycle Assessment tools (e.g., SimaPro, Gabi software).
Experience using carbon management software and tools.
Experience using PowerBI or similar automated reporting tools.
Experience with Environmental Compliance regulations.
