Position Overview:
Mentors are industry professionals who provide world-class technical support to our learners in their Nanodegree journey. All our mentors are handpicked through a rigorous selection process so that we can truly be #studentfirst.
As a mentor, you will be meeting virtually on a weekly basis with your students for community support, live office hours and other activities.
Required skills/qualifications:
- Fluency in English both written and spoken
- Eligibility Requirements: Mentors must have at least 7 years of industry experience or a master’s degree in the relevant field.
- Technical competence: Swift Programming Language (including advanced topics like Protocols, Generics, and Error Handling), SwiftUI for building modern, declarative iOS user interfaces, SwiftData and/or Core Data for robust data persistence and state management, iOS Networking, Concurrency, and Application Authentication protocols, Xcode environment and the complete iOS application lifecycle.
- Graduate from a Udacity Nanodegree Program is a added plus
- Experience teaching technical concepts and public speaking, organizing technical talks, or webinars
- Positive character, trusted by the students, creating emotional ties in the group
- Flexibility at their current job to take this challenge part-time as an external contractor
Responsibilities

- Provide personalized support by addressing learner questions related to course content and projects.
- Prior to the call mentors are expected to review the students' previous project submission(s) - provided by the Mentor Success Team when available - and/or any specific areas of the Nanodegree content or project that the student has expressed confusion or difficulty with.
- For concept deep-dives, mentors will come prepared with a slide presentation that reviews a Nanodegree concept in more detail, share different use-cases for the concept to broaden student perspectives and understanding, and hold a Q&A session with the learners.
- For project walkthroughs, a mentor will come prepared with a slide presentation that outlines each element of the rubric to help learners understand expectations and typical problem areas they may encounter. This can include a mentor “grading” a sample submission to demonstrate what mentors are looking for when reviewing projects.
- Host regular sessions (via Slack or video) to address learner queries related to projects and coursework. No prior preparation required.
