Event Planning Intern (Summer Position)
The Ulnooweg Development Group is seeking an organized and energetic Indigenous youth to join our team as an Event Planning Intern for the summer. This uniquely remote position offers valuable hands-on experience in event coordination, community engagement, and program support while helping organize one of Ulnooweg’s signature annual events, the Ulnooweg Summer Solstice Run.
About the Role
Working alongside the Communications Manager, the Event Planning Intern will assist in coordinating and enhancing the Summer Solstice Run and its related programming. This includes supporting logistics, communications, and school-based virtual runs, as well as engaging Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to help strengthen the cultural and educational elements of the event. The intern will also support outreach at local events, schools, and camps to build awareness and participation in the Summer Solstice Run and Ulnooweg’s community programming.
While this role offers flexibility through remote work, the primary work location is within the Cumberland–Colchester County region. Access to the Millbrook office is available for workspace use, meetings, and to gather materials needed for outreach and community engagement activities.
Key Responsibilities
Event Coordination:
- Support planning and logistics for the Summer Solstice Run and virtual school runs.
- Assist with registration, scheduling, and coordination of materials.
- Help manage event set-up, operations, and participant experience.
Community Engagement:
- Work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners to include cultural protocols and teachings.
- Help build and maintain positive relationships with sponsors, volunteers, and participants.
- Support outreach and promotional activities at local events, schools, and summer camps to increase awareness and engagement.
Communications and Promotion:
- Assist in developing promotional materials and social media content.
- Support photography, video capture, and live coverage during events.
Program Support:
- Help enhance event programming through creative and community-driven activities.
- Gather participant feedback and contribute to post-event evaluation.
Essential Skills and Qualities
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed.
- Attention to detail and a positive, community-centered attitude.
- Respectful and professional approach when working with Elders and community members.
- Adaptable, dependable, and eager to learn event coordination and outreach skills.
Requirements
- Must be an Indigenous youth (First Nations, Inuit, or Métis) between the ages of 15 and 30.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation.
- Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
- Willingness to travel across Nova Scotia and work occasional evenings or weekends.
