STEAM Project Support Intern
About this Opportunity
The Ulnooweg Education Centre (UEC) is seeking a motivated and technically minded Engineering co‑op student to join our Development team. This role is ideal for someone who loves problem‑solving, hands‑on building, and bringing ideas to life through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). As part of an Indigenous‑led organization, you will help create community‑first, culturally grounded learning experiences that support Indigenous youth across Atlantic Canada.
You’ll contribute to curriculum development, prototype educational tools, support STEAM programming, and collaborate with a team that values creativity, innovation, and cultural integrity. This is a chance to apply your technical skills in a meaningful way while gaining real‑world experience in education, engineering, and community‑driven design.

Position Details
- Full‑time, Co‑op Term
- Location: Halifax, NS (with occasional travel)
Your Role
You’ll work closely with the Development team to support the creation of Ulnooweg’s community‑first and culturally appropriate STEAM curriculum and educational products. This role blends technical problem‑solving, creativity, and hands‑on learning.
You will:
- Provide introductory‑level support and education in CAD, 3D printing, and robotics
- Support the development of STEAM curriculum and educational programming
- Provide engineering and technical support to the Education Team’s projects
- Assist with prototyping, troubleshooting, modelling, wiring, and printing
- Support project delivery in alignment with grant requirements
- Occasionally deliver advanced STEAM programs in communities across Atlantic Canada
- Assist with STEAM‑related tasks and projects as directed by your supervisor

Assets
- Knowledge of Python, C, block coding, front‑end languages, or microcontrollers (Raspberry Pi, Arduino)
- Experience with CAD (especially Fusion), 3D printing, laser cutters, resin printers, robotics, or electronic circuit design
- Ability to take an idea to a prototype or proof‑of‑concept
- Strong communication skills and ability to present complex information in accessible ways for youth
- Experience with logistics, QA, systems engineering, or production workflows
Conditions of Employment
- Enrolled in an Engineering Co‑op program at a post‑secondary institution
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 25–30 lbs
- Ability to support hands‑on equipment setup and classroom activities
Working Conditions
