Job Overview:

The Patient Service Specialist / Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in providing exceptional service to our patients throughout their healthcare journey. The Specialist is a key component of our team that works closely with the primary care provider to deliver excellent patient care, ensuring services are provided within the Medical Assisting scope and state guidelines. The Specialist must take exceptional pride in their work and never settle for "good enough".
 
This role involves managing patient interactions before, during, and after receiving care, ensuring a seamless experience through effective communication and coordination of services. The Specialist will handle various administrative tasks, including (but not limited to) appointment scheduling, insurance updates, patient check-in/out, chart preparation, measurement of vital signs, the drawing and preparation of lab work, and preparation of treatment rooms for upcoming examinations. The Specialist will also provide support to primary care providers throughout the Transitional Care Management process.
 
 
 
 
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting patients and visitors professionally while creating a welcoming environment.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling, appointment management, and provider workflow to support an efficient clinic operation.
  • Register patients, verify demographic and insurance information, collect payments, and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Answer phones, manage referrals, maintain office supplies and inventory, and perform general administrative duties.
  • Room patients by obtaining vital signs, updating medical history, medication lists, and documenting information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Perform clinical duties within scope of practice, including venipuncture, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and preparing laboratory and radiology requisitions.
  • Monitor and track ordered laboratory and diagnostic tests to ensure timely follow-up and provider review.
  • Prepare patient charts by ensuring required documentation, test results, and outside records are complete prior to appointments.
  • Participate in telephone triage by gathering patient information and providing guidance according to established protocols and provider direction.
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures, maintain exam rooms, clean instruments, and follow infection prevention and standard precaution guidelines.
  • Support Transitional Care Management (TCM) visits and other patient care activities as directed by the provider.

    Responsibilities

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (required within 90 days of hire if not current upon hire)
    • One (1) year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting
    • Two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience in a physician practice or medical office
