Sport and Performance Psychologist/Staff Psychologist

The mission of the University of Denver’s Health & Counseling Center is to enhance overall student well-being and success through inclusive physical and mental healthcare, prevention, education, and advocacy services. The HCC is an on-campus facility with two counseling locations open 8am-5pm M-F. The HCC provides a wide range of on-site medical and mental health services, along with advocacy and health promotion for the whole campus community. •  Manage and provide specialized counseling and sport psychology services specifically for the DU Department of Athletics NCAA Division I student-athlete population.  
  • Coordinate sport psychology staffing with sports medicine staff for annual pre-participation evaluations for all newcomer student-athletes for the purposes of screening mental health issues and introducing spectrum of sport psychology services. 

• Provide crisis intervention services via both our daytime crisis system (Counselor of the Day and Crisis Time coverage for athletes) and serving as back-up support for the after-hours on-call system.  
• Supervise a limited number of ADHD/LD evaluations for student-athletes.  
• Consult and collaborate closely with the Deputy Athletic Director for Pioneer Health and Performance and Medical Director/Head Medical Team Physician to ensure holistic student care.  
  • Collaborate with all Pioneer Health & Performance staff (Sports Medicine, Sport Dieticians, and Sport Performance Coaches), as well as head coaches for 18 Division I programs. 

• Recruit and supervise a clinical sport psychology track doctoral intern and doctoral level practicum student.  
• Develop and deliver outreach programs, workshops and psycho educational group presentations to student-athletes and  teams, and attend practices and events as schedule allows.  
• Consult with DU Athletics personnel, parents, faculty, etc., when appropriate and with consent in order to provide quality of care.  
• Maintain a diverse option of providers to accommodate student-athlete and Athletic Department preferences both on campus and through outside referrals.  
• Maintain clinical records within a HIPAA medical records system.  
• Generate yearly reports related to volume of clinical and team services.  
• Supervise and participate in the development of generalist trainees, including practicum students, interns and postdoc/postgraduate fellows.  
• Demonstrate sensitivity and competency in working with the full range of diverse groups.  
• Perform additional professional service as individual skills and interests and agency needs indicate.  

• Certifications or licensed by professional organizations (e.g., APA, ACA, CMPC).   
• Experience working in competitive athletic environments.  
• Experience working with a multi-disciplinary team.   
• Experience with injury-related psychological services, (i.e. health or pain psych)  
• Experience in university/college counseling center.  
• Experience with outreach, prevention and groups.  
• Experience supervising ADHD/LD evaluations.
