The Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science (RSECS) has research strengths in biomechanics, biosensors, energy systems, machine learning, controls, and sensor systems with support from industry and federal sources. The Mechanical Engineering Department offers a BS, MS and PhD in Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Our undergraduate students complete a rigorous, comprehensive core curriculum in addition to a deep, hands-on immersion in their technical curricula.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) at the University of Denver (DU) is building an academically diverse faculty and staff with a strong commitment to student support and research through the teacher-scholar model. The ME Department invites applications for a non-tenure track, full-time Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor for the 2026-27 academic year to begin on September 1, 2026. The appointment will be made for a nine-month position only.

The successful applicant will have a passion for teaching and a demonstrated ability to effectively teach undergraduate Mechanical Engineering courses. Duties include teaching around six quarter-based courses per year, advising students, and participating in department and university service. This position does not require research. We seek exceptional faculty who engage students inside and outside the classroom, deliver active and hands-on learning experiences; and authentically support our mission of broadening participation of all students in STEM.

Requirements

  • Teaching experience in a college or university setting.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a teamwork mindset.
  • PhD or terminal degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage student populations.
  • Experience in mentoring and student advising.
