Year 3 Coordinator of General Practice Placements

• Provide academic and clinical leadership for Year 3 General Practice placements, supporting students and supervisors while delivering high-quality teaching through lectures, tutorials and workshops.
• Build and strengthen relationships with general practices across the community, expanding placement opportunities and contributing to medical education and General Practice research initiatives.

The Year 3 General Practice Coordinator provides academic and clinical leadership for the delivery and development of General Practice placements within the Hobart Clinical School. Working closely with the Year 3 Unit Coordinator, Clinical School Director and administrative team, the role coordinates placements, supports students and GP supervisors, and ensures high-quality learning experiences. The position focuses on building and maintaining strong partnerships with general practices to expand placement capacity, while also contributing to teaching, research activities, and the development of Tasmania's future medical workforce. This role is ideally suited to an experienced General Practitioner with a passion for medical education, strong organisational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work autonomously.

• →Deliver high quality and effectively coordinate Year 3 General Practice rotation, working closely with academic and administrative colleagues to ensure placements, timetables, teaching and assessment activities are planned, communicated and delivered within required timeframes.
• →Build and sustain general practice clinical placement capacity by developing productive relationships with practice principals, owners, managers and supervisors as well as engaging new teaching practices and supporting the ongoing participation and retention of existing placement providers.
• →Ensure a high-quality student and supervisor experience through proactive engagement with students and practices, timely management of concerns or placement issues, appropriate escalation where required and continuous improvement informed by feedback and evaluation.
• →Contribute scholarly, high- quality teaching, research and assessment within the Medicine Program and work collaboratively across the Tasmanian School of Medicine to support consistency, quality and continuous improvement in general practice education.
• →Support the development and delivery of MD research projects in general practice and primary care including supervision or co-supervision of students, identifying suitable projects and supervisors and fostering research collaborations between students and academics.

­What we’re looking for:

• →A recognised primary medical qualification and current registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia as well as substantial clinical experience in general practice.
• →Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), or equivalent relevant experience and qualifications.
• →Demonstrated experience in medical education, clinical teaching and/or supervision of medical students or trainee doctors with an understanding of workplace-based clinical learning and assessment.
• →Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated capacity to support students, supervisors, manage sensitive or complex placement matters and exercise appropriate judgement regarding escalation.
• →A record of contributing to productive links within the medical profession, health services and/or wider community with the capacity to represent the University of Tasmania effectively in external professional settings.

Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level C and will have a total remuneration package of up to $184,076 comprising base salary within the range of $138,536 to $157,330 plus 17% superannuation.
