Compensation: This position starts between $64,500 - $71,500, depending on experience

Position Summary: As the Sales and Marketing Director, you are responsible for driving the Urban Ecology Center’s external communications, advertising, marketing, and public relations. Guided by our focus on urban foundational nature-based educational experiences and ecological revitalization, you are responsible for implementing a robust, data-driven sales and marketing strategy.  Your work will engage our neighbors and community members, drive program enrollment, and increase awareness of the Urban Ecology Center’s brand. You will oversee the Marketing team, supporting their work in social media, website maintenance, graphic design, and photography/videography. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


Marketing and Communications

  • Lead all aspects of branding, marketing, and public relations.
  • Develop and implement annual marketing and communications plans to meet strategic goals.
  • Provide marketing support to all development and program functions.
  • Oversee development, production, and distribution of publications and communications, including newsletters, annual report, case for support, NEEP program booklet, summer camp brochures, etc.
  • Oversee maintenance of websites and social media profiles. Maintain production calendar and plan for new content; ensure quality of content and user satisfaction.
  • Oversee registration communication processes as a marketing tool to more deeply engage with our neighborhoods and communities.
  • Oversee production and distribution of videos on a variety of topics for the purpose of educating people about the Urban Ecology Center and its programs and opportunities.
  • Oversee maintenance of digital asset library, ensuring a supply of quality photos, videos, and graphics.
  • Oversee creation of copy and graphics as needed for promotional materials, including websites, social media, and print publications.
  • Manage merchandise, including researching and ordering new merchandise types, and maintaining inventory.


Sales, Media and Public Relations

  • Develop and implement sales strategies for driving audiences to programs, events, initiatives and products.
  • Determine and develop market research needed to better understand and support all programs and functions.
  • Collect customer satisfaction data about programs and membership. Measure the efficacy of marketing and communications activities.
  • Increase awareness of the Center’s programs, events, membership, and donation and volunteer opportunities among key market segments both locally and nationally.
  • Cultivate relationships with key contacts at major media outlets.
  • Identify and seek new opportunities to engage media in Urban Ecology Center programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare talking points, press releases, and other supportive material as needed.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for media inquiries.


Brand Quality and Development

  • Ensure appropriate use of the Urban Ecology Center brand across media, locally and nationally.  
  • Develop solutions for expanding the brand for new uses as necessary. Oversee the Center’s graphic identity, including logo usage and signage.
  • Manage and safeguard the Center’s intellectual property.


Organizational Leadership

  • You will provide expertise and guidance for ongoing organizational projects.
  • You will participate in strategic planning for UEC organizational goals.
  • As a leader of the organization, you will represent UEC’s mission, vision, and values with advanced competency in leading your department and activating our strategic plan. 



TEAM AND SUPERVISION

  • As a team member of the Development and Marketing team, you will be managed by the Vice President of Development and Marketing and will manage the Marketing team, which includes the Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications, Program Systems Manager, and Marketing Communications Coordinator.
  • In this role, you will serve on organizational Circles or Committees as your role requires and schedule allows. 
  • All UEC team members should expect interaction with volunteers, members, and youth participants.



ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT

  • All team members of the Urban Ecology Center work a minimum of 1-2 weekend or evening events each year. Our events are a great way to engage with our communities and see our mission in action; examples include Urban Candlelight Hike, Autumn Celebration, and HKE MKE. Some roles may have increased responsibility for event leadership.
  • All team members are asked to support our building hours by providing building coverage, which may include opening/closing the building, communicating with staff on-site, and welcoming visitors or guests. You may sign up for an ongoing shift or provide backup support.

Experience, Education, and Certifications

  • You have at least 5 years of experience with marketing management, strategic communications planning, and website development. 
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent education experience is highly recommended;  relevant work experience is a great alternative.  A Master's degree is preferred.
  • You have at least two years of experience managing/supervising others in a full-time capacity.
  • Well-developed skills using Google Suite and Adobe Creative Suite are preferred.
  • Technical fluency in website management, including CMS platforms (such as Webflow), SEO fundamentals, and basic HTML/CSS knowledge preferred. 
  • First Aid/CPR Certification is required; UEC can support in attainment.

  • Condition & Location: Open office workspace with an active team atmosphere; using shared workspaces at all three UEC locations.
  • Physical Requirements: Sitting for prolonged periods, typing on a computer keyboard, moving objects of 25 pounds or less.

  • Schedule: Standard business hours with occasional evening and weekend events
