ROLE
The Labourer is responsible for performing general construction activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with SMJV and client and OH&S safety practices and procedures.
- Assist tradesmen in completing daily tasks.
- Gathering tools and materials as requested by foreperson/journeyman.
- Assist with loading and unloading of materials.
- Assisting crew with structural steel and piping installation.
- General labour duties as requested by foreperson.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Daily work area clean up.
- Attend daily safety/toolbox meetings.
- Complete daily Field Level Hazard Assessments.
- Set up and install trench boxes.
- Erect and take down skid piles.
- Erect fencing (t-posts and snow fencing).
- Manual material handling.
- Clean and prepare sites.
- Unload and set up traffic controls and safety equipment.
- Perform spotting for various types of equipment as well as overhead powerlines.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
- Previous work experience in the facility and/or pipeline construction industry would be an asset.
- Knowledge of facilities and/or pipeline construction industry is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
- Knowledge of handling hazardous materials and industry waste.
- Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
- Physically able to lift and handle heavy objects.
- Manual dexterity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations is required. Able to work 6 days on, 1 day off shift with 11-hour shifts (10 hours worked, 1 hour travel) for the duration of project.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Labourer reports to the crew Foreperson. The position has no supervisory duties.
EXPECTED COMPENSATION RANGE
$27.68 – $33.38 per hour
