At Valar Atomics, we're redefining what's possible in energy. Our mission is to make clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable—unlocking abundant energy for industry, hydrogen, and next-generation manufacturing. We are a team of builders, engineers, and operators who believe nuclear energy should be fast to deploy, factory-made, and built for the real world. Our first pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah will demonstrate how advanced nuclear systems and fuel fabrication can power the future. Joining Valar Atomics means becoming part of a company where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level.
We're looking for a skilled Wire EDM Machinist to run precision parts on a Mitsubishi MV 2400S. This role covers the full workflow from print to part—programming, setup, cut strategy selection, process optimization, and inspection. You'll work in a high-mix, low-volume environment where accuracy, surface finish, and repeatability are critical.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Set up, operate, and maintain a Mitsubishi MV 2400S Wire EDM to produce high-quality, high-precision components.
- →Program and edit wire EDM jobs at the machine and/or using offline programming as applicable, including cut conditions, skim strategies, and start hole planning.
- →Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to ensure parts meet dimensional and geometric requirements.
- →Select and optimize wire type and diameter, power settings, flushing, and skim passes to hit tolerance and finish targets.
- →Plan and execute challenging cuts including tight tolerances, fine features, sharp internal corners, and fragile geometries.
- →Perform quality control inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, pin gauges, and optical comparator or CMM as available.
- →Troubleshoot issues such as wire breaks, unstable cuts, taper or straightness variation, poor finish, and dimensional drift.
- →Work with engineering and production to improve fixturing, reduce cycle time, increase reliability, and prevent scrap.
- →Track consumables and maintain machine condition (filters, dielectric system, wire path components) according to preventative maintenance schedules.
- →Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all safety and operational standards.
- →Support documentation of setups and repeat jobs, including fixtures, notes, and inspection plans to improve repeatability.
- You bring strong technical judgment to EDM fundamentals—burn conditions, skims, flushing, wire selection, workholding, and material behavior—and apply it to consistently hit tolerance and finish targets.
- You troubleshoot methodically, adjusting parameters and setups based on what the process is telling you rather than guessing.
- You read GD&T fluently and understand what's functionally critical on each part.
- You take pride in precision and repeatability, treating each setup as something the next person should be able to run cleanly.
- You communicate clearly with engineering and production, surfacing issues early when something is wrong or out of scope.
- You document your setups and learnings so the shop gets faster and more reliable over time.
Requirements
~1 min read- Proven experience as a Wire EDM Machinist, including setup and operation on Mitsubishi or similar machines.
- Strong ability to read and interpret prints, GD&T, and technical specifications.
- Solid understanding of EDM fundamentals: burn conditions, skims, flushing, wire selection, workholding, and material behavior.
- Comfortable troubleshooting process issues and making adjustments to consistently hit tolerance and finish.
- Skilled with precision measuring tools and inspection best practices.
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team in a fast-paced shop environment.
Requirements
~1 min read- High-mix, low-volume manufacturing experience.
- Experience with offline EDM programming software.
- Familiarity with CMM and optical comparator inspection workflows.
- Experience working with exotic materials, thin-wall components, or tight-tolerance assemblies.
- Background in aerospace, energy, or other safety-critical manufacturing environments.
