Lead the Financial Crime & Fraud Advisory function for Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB), as a senior leader within the WIB Financial Crime and Fraud team. You will be part of a global dynamic team providing end-to-end oversight of financial crime risk across AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and scams, and anti-bribery and corruption. Acting as the primary 1st Line subject matter expert, you’ll partner with senior leaders across business, COO, operations, technology and risk to embed strong risk ownership and support informed decision-making.
You’ll drive the implementation and ongoing uplift of the Global Financial Crime Framework across WIB, covering financial crime risk assessments (customer, product, channel and geography), control design and effectiveness, governance, issue management and resolution. The role also represents WIB in senior governance forums, clearly articulating risk posture, emerging threats and remediation progress.
You’ll play a key role in enabling safe, sustainable growth by embedding financial crime considerations into strategic initiatives, product development and client decisions, while leading and developing a high-performing team of advisory specialists.
This is a permanent role based in Sydney.
- Strong experience in financial crime within banking or financial services, ideally across institutional or complex environments
- Deep understanding of financial crime domains including AML/CTF, sanctions, fraud and scams, and anti-bribery and corruption
- Proven ability to implement and embed risk frameworks, including financial crime risk assessments (customer, product, channel, geography), controls, governance and remediation
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements and policy into practical, business-led outcomes and decision making
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing senior leaders across business, risk, operations and technology
- Proven leadership capability, including building, leading or uplifting specialist teams and embedding a strong risk culture
