About Westpac: Westpac is one of the world’s oldest banks and a leading financial services organisation with a strong presence across Australia, New Zealand and key international markets. We support individuals, businesses and institutions through a broad range of banking and financial solutions.

Our culture is values led and performance driven. At Westpac, success is measured by both what we deliver and how we deliver it. We focus on always delivering safely, doing the right thing, executing with excellence and delivering for customers. These outcomes are underpinned by our behaviours of Care, Listen and Act, which guide how we work together and how we build trust with our customers and communities.

About the Team: This role is a core part of Westpac’s global 24/7 cybersecurity monitoring and incident response capability - the bank’s first line of cyber defence.

How will I help?

You will be responsible for analysing and responding to potential cyber threats and attacks against our systems, staff and customers.

(This role may include periodic on-call duties on weekends between 8am and 8pm GMT)

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and prioritise security alerts and events, supporting in-depth analysis of logs and threat information from a variety of systems and security tools, including endpoint and network devices.
  • Following documented processes and procedures to independently respond to security incidents, working with internal stakeholders, business partners and third-party service providers as required for further investigation and remediation.
  • Provide regular updates to business and technology stakeholders and contribute to SOC management reporting.
  • Analysing threat intelligence information to proactively hunt for indicators of compromise and evidence of potential breaches or emerging threats.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, detection engineering activities and Post Incident Reviews, collaborating across the global Information Security Group to uplift detection logic and security controls.

What’sin it for me?

You’ll be joining a highly supportive and collaborative team with international coverage during a period of growth across Westpac’s international regions. You will work closely with experienced cyber security professionals and senior stakeholders across our global offices, gaining exposure to real world cyber incidents and operational environments.

This role offers a clear development pathway for someone at the early stages of their career. You will receive hands‑on training, structured on the job learning and ongoing support to build your technical capability, confidence and understanding of cyber security within a regulated financial services environment. Over time, you will have opportunities to deepen your technical skills, broaden your exposure across cyber and technology disciplines, and progress your career within Information Security.

Westpac is committed to investing in learning and development, supporting people who show curiosity, accountability and a genuine desire to grow.

What do I need?

  • A demonstrated interest in cyber security or technology, through study, work experience, projects or self directed learning
  • Exposure to IT, technology, risk or security concepts through education, internships, service desk roles or similar environments
  • A basic understanding of common cyber threats such as phishing, malware and vulnerabilities, and an interest in how attacks occur and are detected
  • Curiosity, problem solving skills and a desire to learn in a fast paced operational environment
  • The ability to analyse information, ask good questions and make reasoned judgements with support
  • Clear written communication skills and the confidence to escalate issues appropriately

Advantageous but not essential

  • Experience in an IT Service Desk, SOC, incident management or technical support role
  • Awareness of networks, endpoints or security tooling (for example logs, alerts or monitoring tools)
  • Experience working in a large or regulated environment
