Join Westpac’s centralised Data, Digital & AI (DDAI) team and work hands-on with Generative AI and advanced machine learning to deliver real impact for customers and colleagues across the bank. You’ll design, build, and deploy production-grade AI solutions end-to-end, working on meaningful problems and seeing your work used at scale.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be deeply involved in the design, build, and deployment of machine learning and generative AI solutions, working closely with engineers, platform teams, and business stakeholders. You’ll apply strong technical skills to solve complex problems, while ensuring solutions are robust, explainable, and aligned with customer and regulatory expectations.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the bank’s data and AI agenda by transforming insights into action, improving decision making, optimising operations, and enhancing customer experiences. Your impact will be measured through the quality, adoption, and business outcomes of the solutions you deliver.

  • Ideally 6+ years of industry experience developing and deploying machine learning models, with a strong track record of delivering data science solutions that are used in production.
  • Hands-on commercial experience working with Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs), including applying these technologies to real business problems.
  • Solid understanding of modern machine learning techniques, with exposure to deep learning, reinforcement learning, and generative models considered an advantage.
  • Practical experience developing models using frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
  • Strong capability in one or more applied AI domains, such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), LLMs and GenAI, Text analytics and information extraction, Computer vision or multimodal AI including experience with platforms such as OpenAI or Microsoft Cognitive Services.
  • Experience building GenAI-enabled solutions using frameworks such as LlamaIndex, LangChain, AutoGen, DSPy, or similar.
  • Familiarity with graph databases and how they can be used in analytical or AI-driven solutions is desirable.
  • Strong Python programming skills, with experience writing clean, testable, and production-ready code.
  • Experience working on cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, including deploying and operating models in enterprise environments.
