About the Role
~1 min readThe Building Support Manager provides portfolio-wide leadership for Plymouth Housing's Housing Support and Janitorial programs, helping ensure residents live in safe, sanitary, and dignified environments. This role oversees apartment support services, building cleanliness, inspection readiness, unit-turn standards, and sanitation practices while supervising Housing Support Specialists and Janitorial staff. The manager partners across Housing Operations, Facilities, Quality, Innovation and Health (QIH), Safety, and Property Management to strengthen systems, uphold trauma-informed and harm-reduction practices, and drive measurable improvements across Plymouth's housing portfolio.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Lead portfolio-wide strategy for Housing Support and Janitorial programs, using KPIs to improve apartment conditions, building cleanliness, inspection readiness, unit-turn performance, and resident wellbeing.
- →Serve as a subject-matter expert on apartment-condition improvement, hoarding response, sanitation standards, and trauma-informed cleaning and support practices.
- →Develop, update, and implement policies and SOPs for apartment support services, deep cleaning and hoarding response, pest mitigation preparation, unit-turn cleaning, and inspection readiness.
- →Supervise Housing Support Specialist and Janitorial teams across Plymouth buildings, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, cross-training, and strategic staff deployment.
- →Partner with Learning & Development to ensure staff training in cleaning and sanitation standards, trauma-informed care and harm reduction, OSHA and safety procedures, and emergency response.
- →Oversee respectful resident apartment support and collaborate with internal partners on individualized plans for apartments with significant health and safety concerns.
- →Analyze apartment-condition and janitorial performance data, monitor documentation quality, and implement corrective strategies to drive measurable improvements.
- →Establish and maintain organizational cleanliness and sanitation standards; coordinate audits, funder inspections, pest mitigation preparation, unit-turn cleaning, and responses to significant sanitation or hoarding situations.
- →Partner with Safety to review work practices and ensure appropriate training in hazardous materials, sharps disposal, emergency clean-up procedures, and chemical storage and labeling.
- →Foster cross-department collaboration and contribute to annual planning, SOP updates, and budget planning for supplies, cleaning vendors, and program resources.
- Builds trust and works respectfully with people from many backgrounds and lived experiences, contributing to safe, welcoming housing communities where residents experience dignity, choice, and belonging.
- Uses self-awareness and humility to communicate effectively across differences, adapt approach, and treat people with fairness and respect.
- Strong supervisory and multi-site leadership skills.
- Deep knowledge of janitorial, sanitation, environmental health, and safe cleaning practices.
- Ability to use data and KPIs to identify trends and drive operational improvements, including inspection and unit-turn performance.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance speed, quality, and competing priorities.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building respectful resident relationships.
- Commitment to trauma-informed care and harm reduction practices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments in a 24/7 permanent supportive housing environment.
Requirements
~1 min read- Three (3)+ years of supervisory experience.
- Experience in janitorial, environmental services, housing operations, facilities, or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or complex housing barriers.
- Experience implementing SOPs, monitoring KPIs, and improving operational performance.
- Experience in permanent supportive housing.
- Training or experience related to hoarding disorder or environmental health.
- Bachelor's degree in public health, environmental health, social services, facilities management, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training may substitute for a degree.
- Additional training or certification in environmental services, custodial supervision, OSHA/safety, or hoarding/cleaning interventions is highly desirable.
