CONSTANT CARE
GMCH is creating a new team of staff from across the organization who are interested in providing constant care for clients who need this level of support. This role would be in addition to any existing staff role, and those selected would be called upon in an as needed basis to fulfill this role.
The Constant Care position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and supportive environment for patients requiring continuous observation. This position focuses on preventing and de-escalating potentially volatile situations, supporting patients who are experiencing emotional distress, and ensuring the well-being of patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Constant Care position assists with patient care by:
- Having a strong focus on patient safety and ethical standards,
- Developing respectful working relationships with patients and families to meet their care needs,
- Being respectful of the dignity and the individuality of each patient,
- Observing, assessing, and reporting changes in patients’ behaviors and activities to nursing staff,
- Provide continuous, direct observation of assigned patients to ensure safety and comfort,
- Utilize verbal and nonverbal de-escalation strategies to manage agitation, anxiety, or distress.
- Engage patient in activities as appropriate
- Assist with the application of restraints
- Assist with patient transfer and repositioning
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience in assisting patients
- Knowledgeable regarding the scope of practice for various job categories
- Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team, patients, families, and general public
- Demonstrated ability to follow through with requests
- Capable of working independently and able to take direction
- Demonstrated positive relationships with other health care professionals and able to contribute to the development of an environment conducive to excellent patient care
- Willing to work flexible hours
TRAINING TO BE PROVIDED:
- Level of Observation: ConstantCare Training
- GPA Training
- Crisis Intervention Training
- Least Restraints Training
- Fall Prevention Training
- Code White Training
HOURS OF WORK: On an as needed basis
SALARY: Successful applicants for this position would form a pool to be called upon as needed. The rate of pay for the individual Constant Care provider would be consistent with their base position.
