The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies (wiiw) is an independent research institute in the field of applied economic research focussing on Central, East and South East Europe. The institute has been operating successfully for over 50 years and enjoys an excellent international reputation. We offer our clients and stakeholders economic studies, forecasts and economic data.

To strengthen our team of economists, we are currently looking for an

  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses on a variety of topics, including competitiveness, structural change, innovation and sustainability

  • Contribute to the drafting of research reports, policy briefs, working papers, and presentations

  • Develop and conduct your own research/policy projects on the topics mentioned above

  • Lead research and policy projects

  • Actively contribute to project acquisition (e.g. proposals, calls for tenders, etc.)

  • Contribute to policy and academic debates

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in economics (or related fields of study)

  • Interest in innovation, green transition, structural change, and industrial policies

  • Pronounced interest in empirical and policy-relevant research

  • Experience in research or consultancy is an advantage

  • Experience in project acquisition and project leadership is a distinct advantage

  • Capacity to design analytical frameworks and methodological approaches for research and policy-relevant studies

  • Skills in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods

  • Excellent command of English

  • Proactive attitude, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to work independently
