About the Role

Wikipedia runs on curiosity — and behind the scenes, on smart financial decisions. As Senior Financial Analyst, you'll help make those decisions. Serving as the Finance Business Partner for our Communications, Marketing, and other functional teams, you'll build a deep understanding of how we invest in global brand and PR campaigns, Movement-wide communications and events, and the internal programs that keep the Foundation running well.

You'll turn financial data into insight that senior executives, managers, and program owners actually use — helping a mission-driven nonprofit spend wisely in service of something bigger than any single organization. We're looking for someone who's as energized by a hard analytical problem as they are by the mission behind it, and who does their best work in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.

This role is remote and open to candidates across UTC+2 to UTC-8 (Central European through Pacific time). Given the globally distributed nature of the team, some flexibility outside standard hours should be expected.

Responsibilities

You'll sit at the intersection of finance and mission: turning numbers into decisions that shape how Wikipedia and its sister projects grow.

  • Lead financial planning that drives mission goals. Own budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning for Communications and other teams, giving leadership the clarity they need to invest in what moves the mission forward.
  • Build models that tell the real story and add value. Develop and maintain financial models that surface trends, flag risks, and reveal opportunities others might miss; the kind of analysis that changes minds in the room.
  • Turn numbers into insight and action. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, including variance analysis and KPIs that don't just document what happened, but help leaders act on what's next.
  • Bring clarity to complexity. Present financial insight and recommendations directly to leadership and stakeholders: you'll be the person who makes the numbers make sense.
  • Be a trusted partner, not just an analyst. Build deep relationships with cross-functional leaders across Communications and beyond, guiding them through planning cycles and helping them turn financial insight into smarter resourcing decisions.
  • Make the work better as you go. Spot inefficiencies and opportunities in how the Foundation plans, reports, and tracks finances, and lead the charge to build improvements.
  • Help drive strategic projects. Lend your financial lens to cross-team initiatives that shape how the Foundation operates — like building the budget model behind a global fundraising campaign, or running the financial case for launching a new approach to grant-funded community events.

You're a financial communicator as much as an analyst - someone who can turn complex data into insight that helps mission-driven leaders make better decisions, faster.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, plus 5+ years in financial analysis and planning; you've moved beyond the basics and are ready to shape strategy, not just report on it.
  • Direct experience budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, bonus points if it’s from a nonprofit or mission-driven environment; you understand that every dollar here maps to real-world impact.
  • Fluency in Excel/Google Sheets and modern financial modeling and data visualization tools; you build models people actually trust and use.
  • The ability to translate financial complexity into a story that resonates with non-finance stakeholders; you're as comfortable in a spreadsheet as you are in a room with executives.
  • A sharp analytical mind paired with genuine curiosity; you don't just restate the numbers, you find what they mean and why it matters.
  • Comfort operating independently in a remote, multicultural team spanning many time zones; you thrive on autonomy and know how to stay connected across distance.
