ADULT SPORTS GAME MONITOR

JOB DESCRIPTION:
General Statement of Duties: Monitor recreational sports league games and matches. Examples include, but are not limited to, dodgeball, kickball, ultimate frisbee, pickleball, miniature golf, and yard games. Performs other job-related duties as required. Ability to work evenings and weekends is a regular aspect of this position.
Distinguishing Features of the Class: An employee in this classification is responsible for monitoring low-level competitive sports games and matches, and reporting outcomes to the Athletic Supervisor. This position is distinguished from others based on the recreational nature of the games or matches being overseen. Supervision of other employees is not normally a responsibility of this position.

- Assumes responsibility for safe and effective gameplay within the games or matches.
- Know, understand, and uphold all game rules and regulations.
- Communicate sports rules clearly, calmly, and effectively with all members of the public, including players, fans, and general community members.
- Keep time, score, and manage all aspects of the respective game or match details.
- Organize and verify rosters prior to all games or matches.
- Remain unbiased during gameplay and maintain professional conduct at all times with all players, and spectators.
- Ensure the court or field or play is free from hazard or unusual circumstances prior to and throughout gameplay.
- Report any damage to the facility or equipment to the Athletics Supervisor.
- Dress in appropriate attire issued by the organization at all times.
- Perform other job-related duties or tasks as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge: First Aid/CPR Certification; additional certifications relevant to position oversight may be required.
Skills: Communication skills, including personal interaction and the ability to collaborate with internal and external parters; proficiency to learn district operating systems; ability to work independently.
Abilities: Communicates effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships; act calmly and effectively in possible emergency situations. Exercise sound judgement, take initiative, and respond appropriately to challenging situations.
Physical Requirements of the Position: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, twist, kneel, reach, and stoop, often in conjunction with reaching for or manipulating objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move within the field of play, move materials weighing up to 30 pounds on a regular basis such as boxes/bags of activity materials. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 75% of the work period while working with children in activities. Daily standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of time can also be expected. Persons with disabilities may be able to perform the essential duties of this class with reasonable accommodation. Personal Protective Equipment: Nitrile gloves for the administration of First Aid.
Required Experience and Training: High school graduation or equivalency and two years of experience working in a sports setting, playing or involvement with sporting games and matches; experience in community recreation, parks and recreation, or a related area; experience working closely with adults, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties.
Preferred Experience and Training: Three years of experience working in a sports setting, playing or involvement with sporting games and matches; experience in community recreation, parks and recreation, or a related area; experience in behavior management and/or conflict resolution preferred, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties. Spanish speaking preferred; a bilingual rate adjustment is contingent upon passing a proficiency test.
Necessary Special Requirements: Possession, or ability to obtain, current First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates. Because this job is considered safety sensitive, a drug screen test will be required prior to employment. Must be at least 16 years of age.
Desirable Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license.

Willamalane Park and Recreation District determines starting pay based on the applicant's relevant education, experience and training within the wage and salary range for the position. This process is consistent with Oregon pay equity laws.
