As the Senior Accountant, this position will have primary oversight and execution of the full project costing, fixed Asset and financial reporting cycles. The Senior Accountant will have a solid understanding of the related inputs from procurement, payables, labor capitalization, project cost tracking and reporting. Additionally, they will take the project costing cycle process and outputs and transfer them into the fixed asset accounting process. This position will utilize a higher level of critical thinking and analytical skill needed to maintain day to day project costing, fixed asset and depreciation functions and process execution. While building and maintaining internal and external relationships with cross functional teams this position will build a critical awareness of process improvements and related efficiencies to move the project costing, fixed asset and financial reporting forward, aligning with organizational changes and future growth. This position will own this process while supporting a fast-paced environment and a dynamic group of professionals within the Finance and Accounting teams. The position reports directly to the Senior Accounting Manager.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and execute the company-wide maintenance of project costing along with the fixed asset and financial reporting cycles, while ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of related reports, financial statements and workpaper support for various stakeholders
  • Act as the team lead and support resource for the accounting team for troubleshooting, problem solving, research or other departmental needs
  • Perform duties as needed and identified for the Senior Accounting Manager in various situations and as a backup resource
  • Work to ensure proper maintenance of required project and asset data including fixed asset additions, retirements, depreciation, project costing detail, and construction/retirement work in process (CWIP/RWIP)
  • Provide analysis and review of related invoice coding, backup documentation, identifying discrepancies and independently working to resolve and correct issues as it relates to project accounting; determine and recommend the appropriate course of action needed to ensure accuracy and timely completion of related tasks
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting requirements and requests are completed on a routine and ad-hoc basis to establish accurate financial data critical to financial, capital, regulatory or other stakeholder’s needs
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of CWIP, Pplant accounts, accumulated depreciation and regulatory asset & liabilities to the general ledger; identify and correct discrepancies in a timely manner during the financial reporting period
  • Prepare and support annual regulatory filing reports and associated workpapers for FERC Form 1, the annual Earnings Monitoring Report, and other reporting requirements as necessary
  • Maintain and support all system updates for fixed assets, depreciation, burden, project categories and hourly and indirect overhead rates in Oracle Fusion
  • Coordinate and compile cash flow report and related financials with a high level of accuracy and detail while working with other functional areas to utilize various inputs required for use in monthly reporting and forecasting activities
  • Compile and prepare necessary federal and property tax workpapers and support for fixed assets, CWIP, meals, and other tax related items
  • Assist in providing customer service and training support to incoming and legacy employees specific to accounting operations, capital projects, and fixed assets
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure proper execution of capital project, fixed asset, and financial reporting processes
  • Maintain active process improvement initiatives and recommendations while maintaining an accurate, functional procedure and policy documentation library for the position
  • Prepare recurring monthly and miscellaneous journal entries and related support schedules
  • Review workpapers, journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, or other ad-hoc support for staff
  • Manage and prepare monthly financial reporting narrative for required accounting deliverables
  • Actively participate in cross-functional team projects and initiatives as it relates to the capital project, fixed asset and financial reporting aspect and other needs of the utility
  • Analyze information and develop efficiencies around use and access to data and its visualization for reporting and other required metrics
  • Assist directly in annual financial audits, budget process, and regulatory reporting activities and initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in financial accounting, with an emphasis in project accounting, fixed assets and financial reporting or equivalent requisite areas
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting or equivalent degree required
  • CPA or actively pursuing CPA certification preferred
  • Previous senior level general ledger, financial reporting, and fixed asset accounting experience preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting practices, with utility experience within FERC preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and related MS Office products, dynamic ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion, PeopleSoft FCM, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, or other large scale multi-module accounting systems
  • Experience working in a fast-pace dynamic and growth mindset environment
  • Ability to stay organized, work independently, and prioritize order over all inputs and outputs of position and daily needs, as directed
  • Self-starter who can problem solve, utilize, and exhaust available tools and resources, and take initiative independently or as part of a team
  • High functioning level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong professional, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills daily
