The Nurse Specialist in Oncology is an advanced clinical practitioner responsible for delivering expert nursing care to patients with cancer. This role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care, as well as providing education, emotional support, and clinical leadership. The Nurse Specialist serves as a key resource for patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams, ensuring evidence-based, patient-centered oncology care.

Responsibilities

Provide advanced nursing assessment and management for oncology patients, including those undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, and palliative care.

Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Monitor patient responses to treatment, manage side effects, and adjust care plans accordingly.

Deliver specialized procedures and treatments within scope of practice.

Act as a patient advocate, ensuring patients’ needs and preferences are central to care decisions.

Provide emotional, psychological, and educational support to patients and their families.

Facilitate informed decision-making by explaining diagnoses, treatment options, and potential outcomes.
