ORGANIZATION SUMMARY

POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The Intake & IDHS Specialist serves as a primary point of contact for refugees, immigrants, and other eligible clients, conducting intake assessments, determining program eligibility, and connecting clients to services and resources. This role is responsible for assisting clients with public benefits applications, renewals, and case management, while working closely with Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) caseworkers to ensure timely access to benefits and resolve case issues. The Specialist provides client advocacy, referrals, and ongoing support, maintains accurate documentation, and helps promote client stability and self-sufficiency through effective service coordination.
  • Conduct client intake, eligibility screening, enrollment, and orientation to available programs and services.
  • Assist refugees, immigrants, and other eligible clients with applications, renewals, and case maintenance for public benefits programs, including TANF, RCA, SNAP, Medicaid, All Kids, SSI, and AABD.
  • Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate case management, benefits education, advocacy, interpretation, and translation to support clients in accessing and maintaining public benefits.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), working closely with IDHS staff to resolve case issues, monitor benefit status, and ensure timely service delivery.
  • Coordinate internal and external referrals to community resources and partner agencies to address client needs and promote stability and self-sufficiency.
  • Maintain accurate client records, case notes, reports, and program documentation in compliance with organizational, grant, and IDHS requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, community partners, and government agencies to provide coordinated services and support positive client outcomes. 
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, and professional development opportunities to enhance program effectiveness and service delivery.
  • Provide administrative support, assist with data entry and reporting, and support volunteers and interns as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet program, client, and organizational needs.

  • Valid drivers license, access to reliable vehicle and ability to pass MVR standards
  • Fluency in written and spoken English 
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural experience 
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in immigrant case management or a related field 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and support team members during periods of high client volume or emergencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications 
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through on multiple assignments and projects
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and comprehensive records
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and consistent follow-through 
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, immigration statuses and associated eligibility for benefits 
  • Ability to network effectively and build relationships to develop referral partnerships 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Fluency in one or more languages commonly spoken by World Relief clients (e.g., French, Arabic, Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Swahili, Lingala, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Assyrian, Rohingya) strongly preferred
