ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish.

Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.

POSITION SUMMARY:
World Relief seeks a Youth Fellow to serve refugee and immigrant students. A Youth Fellow will work closely with the Refugee and Immigrant Youth Services team to support programming initiatives like after school tutoring, high school lunch groups, and patiently assisting families with case management needs. The Youth Fellow will bring their perspective and experience to support decision-making and youth programming development.
 
This is a limited-term position funded through a grant agreement until 6/30/27 and contingent upon funding extension.
 
This is a part-time position for 20 hours per week. 70% in office; 30% work from home.
  • Work closely with the RIYS Team to further develop needed, gap-filling, research-driven Youth Services for refugee & other immigrant youth in the Triangle while gaining vital experience as a young professional
  •   Coordinate with DPS staff, students and parents to identify needs and challenges faced by refugee & other immigrant learners whose primary language limits their ability to benefit from existing academic support services  
  • Support families through school registration and enrollment processes through application-filling, ESL testing set-up, and school entry meetings  
  • Participate in RIYS activities including but not limited to: large group mentorship meetings, youth tutoring (in-school and/or virtual)  
  • Facilitate interpretation for parent/teacher conferences for target students
  •   Facilitate increased communication between parents and teachers through translation of school forms, either directly themselves or through coordinating with WRD Bilingual Assistants  
  • Work with DPS and volunteer base to provide transportation for target students from partner schools for all program activities as needed  
  • Facilitate deeper parent and family engagement with and integration into school community life by providing target student families with interpreters and transportation to school events and more; create school community events for target student families in their own languages  
  • Support implementation of summer enrichment program hosted at DPS partner school in conjunction with volunteers and interpreters  
  • Serve as Chair (or Co-Chair) of Youth Advisory Council, meeting periodically throughout the year to use their voices and experiences to inform WRD programs, serving as vital decision-makers  
  • Meet weekly with your RIYS team supervisor for troubleshooting, brainstorming, accountability and feedback
  •   Utilize case management databases at World Relief to track program data; case note as needed  
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Association of Evangelicals' For the Health of The Nation document
  •  High School Diploma or Equivalent  
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Others required to complete the essential job functions 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the refugee or immigrant experience, through lived experience or professional engagement preferred.  
  •   Fluent in a language spoken by World Relief clients (example: Arabic, Dari, Kinyarwanda, Pashto, Rohingya, Spanish, Swahili, Tigrinya, Vietnamese, and more)  
  • Experience as a student in RIYS programming and/or Durham Public Schools
  •   License to drive in NC
