Reports To: Production Supervisor / Shop Team Lead 

Location: York Precast Inc. Production Facility 

 

Position Summary 

The Batch Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and accurate batching of concrete used in precast production. This role oversees the operation of computerized batching systems, ensuring all concrete mixes meet specified designs, quality standards, and production schedules. 

 

The operator works closely with production crews, quality control personnel, and supervisors to ensure consistent concrete quality and reliable delivery of concrete to casting operations within the plant. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Operate and oversee computerized concrete batching equipment. 
  • Accurately batch concrete according to specified mix designs.
  • Monitor batching systems to ensure precise measurement of aggregates, cement, water, and admixtures. 
  • Coordinate concrete delivery with the production floor and team leads to meet production schedules.
  • Adjust batching processes within established limits to maintain consistent concrete quality. 
  • Conduct basic quality control checks on materials and fresh concrete when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of production volumes, materials used, and batch adjustments. 
  • Monitor raw material inventories and notify management when materials require replenishment. 
  • Perform routine inspections, servicing, and cleaning of batch plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot batching system issues and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the batch plant and surrounding areas. 
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with production teams and supervisors.
  • Assist with plant operations when batching activities are not required. 

 

Requirements 

  • Minimum3+ years of experience in Precast concrete, Manufacturing, Construction, or other related industry. 
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with reliable transportation.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow mix designs accurately.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Ability to read and understand technical instructions and operational procedures.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within a team environment. 

 

Preferred Assets 

  • Previous experience operating a concrete batch plant. 
  • Experience working in a precast concrete production facility.
  • Knowledge of concrete mix design and batching processes.
  • Ability to perform basic quality control testing of aggregates or fresh concrete.
  • Standard First Aid Certification.
  • Fall Protection Certification.

  • Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
  • Fast-paced production environment requiring attention to detail and coordination with multiple teams.
