Zeeco is seeking a Manufacturing / Automation Designer to support production through the design and development of jigs, fixtures, automation solutions, and 3D-printed components. This role combines hands-on manufacturing engineering with CAD design to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall production workflows.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, detail-oriented problem solver with strong mechanical design skills and a passion for continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Design and develop jigs, fixtures, tooling, and automation solutions to improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality
Design and implement production molds, including metal and 3D-printed mold systems, for fabrication, forming, casting, or composite-related manufacturing needs
Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings for parts, assemblies, and production equipment
Support 3D printing initiatives, including designing, prototyping, and implementing printed components for production use
Analyze manufacturing processes and implement improvements to increase throughput and reduce cost and waste
Collaborate with engineering, production, and shop personnel to ensure designs are practical and optimized for fabrication
Perform hands-on technical analysis of equipment and manufacturing processes
Assist with capital improvement and automation projects from concept through implementation
Develop and maintain process documentation, including fabrication, assembly, and test instructions
Validate designs through shop support, testing, and iteration
Review and revise drawings based on internal and customer feedback
Estimate production times, materials, and labor requirements for projects
Apply Lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste and improve workflow
Support shop floor operations including troubleshooting, training, and continuous improvement initiatives
Technical School Diploma, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Drafting/Design, or related field
3–5+ years of experience in manufacturing design, drafting, or engineering support
Strong proficiency in INVENTOR, VAULT, and AutoCAD (2D & 3D modeling)
Experience designing jigs, fixtures, molds, or production tooling
Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and applications in manufacturing
Understanding of fabrication processes, machining, and assembly methods
Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and process improvement methods
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills
Ability to communicate effectively across engineering and shop teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Hands-on mindset with the ability to move between design and shop floor execution
Creative thinker who can develop practical automation and tooling solutions
Self-driven with the ability to manage projects with minimal supervision
