Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Backup Engineer to manage and maintain our empowercloud backup systems. In this role, you will monitor backup results, resolve failures, and provide 2nd and 3rd level support. You will work closely with the backup lead to implement best practices, perform health checks, and ensure timely restoration of data.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the company’s empowercloud backup results on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Rapidly triage and resolve backup failures, escalating issues to the backup lead or company management in a timely manner based on the company’s OLA’s.
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level backup infrastructure support.
  • Perform restoration of objects or client environments in a timely manner, in line with company processes and procedures.
  • Managing customer backup infrastructure, including monitoring, reporting, and maintenance as required.
  • Perform maintenance, proactive tasks, and audits where necessary.
  • Collaborate with the backup lead to ensure configurations adhere to the company’s best practices.
  • Conduct regular health checks on backup environments alongside the backup lead.
  • Work with the backup lead to provide recommendations to customers based on the company’s best practices.
  • Collaborate with the onboarding team to audit, review, and perform health checks and recommendations for new customers and devices in the backup space.
  • Identify and escalate any missing information/documentation to the backup lead, ensuring it is clearly documented.
  • Adhere to Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes as per company/customer standards (ITIL Framework).
  • Be flexible and able to quickly adapt to the needs of the customer or business.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in IT Systems Support.

  • At least 2+ years administering/supporting enterprise backup software (e.g., Veeam, Shadowprotect, Commvault, Azure Backup, etc.).

  • At least 2 years’ experience working with servers and other backend infrastructure (e.g., Windows Server, Azure, VMWare, Microsoft 365, etc.).

  • Preferred certification: Veeam Certified Engineer or other enterprise backup solutions.

  • Preferred experience working in a multi-tenanted environment utilizing different backup tools/processes.

  • Preferred previous role with an IT&T System Integrator, Service Provider, or similar organization.

  • Industry experience working within the ITIL framework.

  • Experience configuring disk and tape backup solutions.

  • Strong documentation skills.

  • Strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to adapt to customer needs/requirements.

  • Knowledge of the ITIL IT Service Management Framework.

  • Understanding and experience in the following technologies:

  • Enterprise Backup Technologies, including Veeam, Commvault, Backup Exec, etc.

  • Windows Server, VSS, Shadow Copies.

  • vSphere/VMware and other virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V and Azure, etc.).

  • Microsoft 365.

  • File System technologies (e.g., NTFS, ReFS, and deduplication).

  • Linux/Unix (not essential but preferred).

  • PowerShell (not essential but preferred).
