About the Business Analyst

Business Analysts at Defcon AI are pivotal in ensuring that the voice of the business is heard, understood, and translated into actionable requirements for technical teams. This role involves intensive collaboration with stakeholders, managing business processes, collecting and documenting business requirements.

Business Analysts ensure a seamless transition from business vision to technical realization. They work with Program Managers, Architects, and Subject Matter Experts throughout the team to ensure the technical designs and implementation of requirements align with business expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Engagement – Work closely with business stakeholders, either directly with clients or internal representatives, to fully understand and articulate their processes and concerns in their own language. This includes satisfying the stakeholders’ needs and expectations through clear, empathetic communication and feedback mechanisms.
  • Documentation & Information Management – Capture, catalog, and document the data and insights gathered during stakeholder interactions using agreed-upon tools (e.g. Confluence, Jira, etc.). This responsibility ensures that all relevant information is accessible, organized, and clearly understood by all parties involved.
  • Facilitative Leadership – Identify and help organize structured, focused meetings. This role requires preparing agendas that ensure productive discussions and tangible outcomes.
  • Project Cadence – Collaborate with project management professionals (e.g. PM, Scrum Masters) to ensure that necessary meetings and touchpoints occur regularly and productively, maintaining project momentum and stakeholder engagement.
  • Internal SME Collaboration – Act as an internal subject matter expert who provides input to the Development team, ensuring that technical plans and actions align seamlessly with business objectives identified during the stakeholder engagement process.
  • Detailed understanding of software development interdependencies – Experience on an evolving software team with deep understanding in how changing one software feature impacts the engineering timeline and the deliverable.

Qualifications

  • Empathetic Communication – Ability to engage stakeholders in a respectful and productive way, ensuring their needs are understood and reflected accurately.
  • Strong Writing Skills – The ability to clearly and concisely document business needs, processes, and requirements is vital. The Business Analyst should be adept at creating comprehensive documentation that is easily understandable by both business and technical audiences.
  • Organizational Skills – Strong, demonstrable capabilities in capturing, cataloging, and documenting complex information clearly and actionably.
  • Team Coordination – Experience in identifying and coordinating the right talent for the right task, ensuring clear communication of requirements and expectations.
  • Facilitation Experience – Proven ability in guiding focused and effective meetings with diverse participants, including client-side SMEs.
  • Collaborative Spirit – Ability to work with project management and maintain a productive project cadence.
  • Technical & Business Alignment – Significant experience acting as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring mutual understanding and alignment of goals and actions. Understands at a high level how software applications are built by breaking them down into their individual components.
  • Software Proficiency – Experience using Atlassian software, such as Confluence and Jira, to manage business and requirements documentation for one or more projects.
  • Experience on an evolving software team with deep understanding in how changing one feature will impact the application development and the engineering timeline.
  • Understanding of programming languages and frameworks
  • US Security Clearance preferred

Salary Range: $130,000-$160,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience, skills, and other factors.
