Profile Overview
We are seeking a dynamic Lead Engineer (Web/Java) to lead the technical transformation of our latest SaaS acquisition HR tech. This role requires a visionary leader with hands-on expertise in Java, JSP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL. The candidate will take over the codebase and infrastructure from the solo-founder and drive modernization, scalability, and team growth, ensuring the product meets the highest standards of performance and usability.
Your responsibilities
- Technical Leadership
- Lead the overhaul of the existing tech stack to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability by transforming into a cloud based technology.
- Stay actively involved in coding while building and guiding the team in best practices and modern development techniques.
- Drive the adoption of saas.group technical standards (aka our “Paved Road”)
- Team Management
- Build and manage a high-performing technical team.
- Mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and career growth.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative, remote first team culture. Prioritize outcomes over outputs.
- Project Management
- Oversee the end-to-end development lifecycle, including planning, execution, and delivery.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Report directly to the responsible board member at saas.group.
- Communicate technical progress, challenges, and solutions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
- Influence and contribute to the product roadmap based on technical insights and market trends.
- Budget Responsibility
- Manage the tech budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions and investments.
- Evaluate and implement tools and technologies that enhance development efficiency and product quality.
What You bring to the table
- Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Excellence in Java (currently no framework / future integration of a state-of-the-art framework favored)
- Good knowledge around HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
- Experience with modernizing legacy systems and scaling SaaS applications in the cloud.
- Familiarity with modern tech stacks including GitHub, GitHub Actions, AWS and other cloud platforms.
- Proven track record of building and leading technical teams.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and expectations
- Strong mentoring skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
- Hands-on approach to leadership, remaining involved in coding and technical decision-making.
- Clear and concise communication, capable of translating complex technical concepts for a non-technical audience.
- Ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
