Job Description

MariaDB is making a big impact on the world. Whether you’re checking your bank account, buying a coffee, shopping online, making a phone call, listening to music, taking out a loan, or ordering takeout – MariaDB is the backbone of applications used every day. Companies small and large, including 75% of the Fortune 500 run MariaDB, touching the lives of billions of people. With massive reach through Linux distributions, enterprise deployments, and public clouds, MariaDB is uniquely positioned as the leading database for modern application development.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Global Head of Sales Engineering, our candidate will serve a critical role in closing the sales cycle and future growth in the Americas.   This is both a quota-attaining role (capitalizing on net-new business opportunities and leads) and a leadership role to build the pre-sales team while educating across sales, marketing, and management.  Additionally, leading and managing the professional services team.

Our ideal candida will have consultative solutions for clients’ business challenges in their organization. He or she needs to possess domain knowledge and maintain flexibility to oversee technical resources to contribute in the successful execution of multiple sales cycles.

There will also be a heads-down need to organize, create, and lighthouse content individually: presentations, web conferences, white-papers, workflows, and RFP/RFI’s. If you have the technical sophistication, proven mastery of closing sales, and an appetite for a dynamic role in a startup environment, we’d like you to earn and own this leadership position.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated ability of pre-sales engineering leadership experience focused on organizational growth, development of the existing team, and an ability to hire and retain high-performing engineers.
  • A proven track record of working directly with customers or partners and partnering with sales leadership to bring deals to fruition. This is a role for someone with a bias for action, ready to roll up their sleeves.
  • Track record of systemizing, creating best practices to pass down to teams and across new geographies vs. ad-hoc phone-answering or fire-drills.
  • Experience driving the sales team to attain quota and yearly revenue expectations.
  • High level of sales acumen that matches an equally high level of enterprise technology with preferences given to candidates with database and/or cloud background.
  • Must be able to partner closely and in sync with VP of sales to prioritize resources that put us in the best position to make our targets.
  • Ability to hire, mentor, and develop Sales/Systems Engineers will be key in a growing environment.
  • GTM: Reaching, assessing client pain-points and needs, and following through with the best solutions.
  • Managed stakeholders from CIOs/CTOs/CXOs to developers, understanding limitations but trying not to take a ‘no, we can’t do this’ anyway.
  • Experience across channel sales from ISVs to vendors and consultancies.
  • Experience working 100% remotely.

Qualifications

  • 8 to 10 years of Senior Sales Engineer experience
  • B.A. / B.Sc. or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong Database or Database Architecture Skills
  • Ability to manage complex customer POC engagements
  • Assist our customer success and field teams in customer orientation effort
  • The ability and willingness to travel as needed along with working off-hours when required.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent communication along with a high level of organization skills.
  • Very strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • A working understanding of database technologies.
  • Fundamental knowledge of programming languages, web stack technologies, etc.

Bonus Experience and Skills

  • Experience with pre-sales in an open-source software environment
  • Experience with pre-sales in a SaaS or managed services environment
  • Cloud engineering / public cloud experience
  • History of public speaking and writing (blogs and articles)

Location

Remote – Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka or India
