Job Description

Our Engineering team built the world’s largest cloud security platform from the ground up, and we keep building. With more than 100 patents and big plans for enhancing services and increasing our global footprint, the team has made us and our multitenant architecture today’s cloud security leader, with more than 15 million users in 185 countries. Bring your vision and passion to our team of cloud architects, software engineers, security experts, and more who are enabling organizations worldwide to harness speed and agility with a cloud-first strategy.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to contribute to a new software development team in the Zscaler Threat Hunting group. This is a nascent service within Zscaler and an opportunity to do greenfield development along with having a measurable impact on team culture.

You will work together in the development of platforms for identifying, classifying, detecting, and alerting on security threats in Zscaler’s customer environments. Your work will directly and positively improve the security posture of our global customer base, and by extension make the Internet a safer place.

Your responsibilities will include designing, coding, and maintaining multiple back end services in Golang. Additionally cross-domain collaboration with the ZTH Engineering team’s data-focused engineers will be a daily occurrence, so Python experience is a plus. Everyone on the ZTH Engineering team participates in the design of how we serve our threat hunters, and customers, and you will be involved from the beginning.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop multiple ZTH backend services in Golang.
  • Automate build and deployment tasks with bash and Python.
  • Use Terraform to enable Amazon Web Services infrastructure.
  • Creation of clear and concise specifications and diagrams for use in both development and security evaluation.
  • Creation of clear and concise documentation to be shared amongst the team and with the wider organization.
  • Regular code review and collaborative development using git (via Bitbucket).
  • Rigorous design review of new and existing work with internal security teams to ensure the safety of customer systems and data.
  • Share experience to build up, and be built up by, your team members.
  • Collaborate using a light, Agile development process.

What We’re Looking for (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Written communication skills at the level required for a U.S. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience developing and deploying reliable, low-latency REST API services.
  • 5+ years of software development experience with Golang, the Go standard library, one or more popular Go web frameworks, and the AWS or GCP client libraries.
  • 6+ years of experience with operation and deployment on IaaS cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform.
  • 6+ years experience developing applications deployed with Linux containers on platforms such as AWS Elastic Container Service or Kubernetes.

What Will Make You Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of core Internet networking protocols such as: TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, DNS, HTTP 1 & 2, TLS along with practical, hands-on experience with the networking aspects (VPCs, routing, network design, security groups, load balancers) of public clouds such as AWS and GCP.
  • Experience integrating with common authentication and authorization systems and use of related protocols and standards such as: OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, and JWT.
  • Previous experience using several database systems such as: Postgres, MySQL, Athena, and Hadoop.
  • Previous experience using AWS application integration services such as SQS, SNS, SES, Event Bridge, Step Functions, and API Gateway.
  • Python 3 experience along with at least some exposure to the data analysis libraries available for the language.
  • Experience creating advanced deployments of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies for a variety of workload types.
