Job Description

Hi, we’re The Browser Company 👋 and we’re building a better way to use the internet.

Browsers are unique in that they are one of the only pieces of software that you share with your parents as well as your kids. Which makes sense, they’re our doorway to the most important things — through them we socialize with loved ones, work on our passion projects, and explore our curiosities. But on their own, they don’t actually do a whole lot, they’re kind of just there. They don’t help us organize our messy lives or make it easier to compose our ideas. We believe that the browser could do so much more — it can empower and support the amazing things we do on the internet. That’s why we’re building one: a browser that can help us grow, create, and stay curious.

To accomplish this lofty task, we’re building a diverse team of people from different backgrounds and experiences. This isn’t optional, it’s crucial to our mission, as we need a wide range of perspectives to challenge our assumptions and shape our browser through a bold, creative lens. With that in mind, we especially encourage women, people of color, and others from historically marginalized groups to apply.

About The Program

The BCNY Engineering Fellowship Program is a full-time role for engineers who want to accelerate their impact in Product Engineering. You’ll onboard for 6 months as a Fellow and be paired with an Engineering Manager and Mentor who will coach you while you work on a high-impact project. At the end of the program, upon evaluation, you’ll graduate into a Product Engineering role. The program starts in January and ends in June (2025). See here to learn more about our Product Engineering team.

People who identify as women, Black/African American, Latinx or Hispanic, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and/or Pacific Islander or LGBTQ+ are especially encouraged to apply, although the fellowship program is not exclusive to these groups.

What You’ll Do

  • As a fellow on our product engineering team, you’ll collaborate with a cross discipline team (Engineering, Design, and Membership) to help explore new ideas through rapid prototyping and exploration by bringing them into production.
  • Speaking of collaboration, you’ll also work alongside teams like Research and Data to help you learn about member needs and feedback. The not-so-secret secret in our product development is actively listening to our members throughout every part of our process.
  • You’ll be paired with best in-class product engineers as mentors who will help you onboard and navigate our codebase, and support your growth personally and professionally.

Why Work Here

  • Show AND Tell: We value creative exploration and prototyping.
  • User-Obsessed: We care deeply about our members and how we can make their day on the internet better. We constantly gather feedback and iterate to solve their problems.
  • Impact: We release new improvements weekly, and get to see the immediate impact of our work, whether it’s in ways we can improve, or those where we are redefining the market.
  • Best In-Class Team: We’ve built a stellar team with some of the most reputable, world-class developers, engineers, designers, and other aficionados of their crafts. And we get to learn from, and grow with, our coworkers every day.

What We’re Looking For

  • You have 1-4 years of professional experience software development, with proficiency in Swift or Objective-C, or are willing to learn
  • You live in the greater New York City area and can work in our Brooklyn office three days a week, especially to pair with different team members.
  • You’d describe yourself as curious, self-motivated, and imaginative. But also, passionate about working in product engineering in an environment that changes daily, with new challenges in pushing the boundaries of how we interact with the internet
  • You’re expected to work full time. Because of this, students currently enrolled in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD program are not eligible for this position

Timeline

  • Application close October 21, 2024
  • Interviews will take place from October through December 2024, and candidates will be selected by December 19, 2024
  • The Engineering Fellowship Program will run from January through June 2025.

This is a full time role, where you’ll onboard for 6 months as part of our Engineering Fellowship Program. At the end of the program, upon evaluation, you’ll graduate into a Product Engineering role.

Compensation and Benefits

💰 The annual salary range for this role is $180,000-$210,000 USD. The actual salary offered will vary based on experience level and interview performance.

đŸ§˜đŸ»â€â™€ïž Fellows are also eligible for benefits. Along with a competitive salary, BCNY provides every employee with the following benefits:

  • Comprehensive healthcare package with employee medical, dental, and vision. We cover 100% of premiums for employees and 90% for dependents
  • 401k plan
  • Lunch at the office
  • Employees based in the US also receive additional services including, but not limited to, free annual memberships to One Medical (where available), Talkspace, Teladoc, and HealthAdvocate.

Following conversion to full-time, you will continue to receive benefits with the addition of an equity grant, parental leave, and the option to work remotely, with a home office stipend.

The Browser Company is a well-funded, ambitious startup of about 85 people (and growing!) who are passionate about building great products. We are a remote-first, distributed team, with the option to work in office in New York. We strongly support diversity and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.
