Job Description
American Specialty Health Incorporated is seeking a Senior Database Admin II to join our Information Technology Operations department. This position will provide expert-level production support duties for all of the mission-critical databases in the organization.
Salary Range
American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate’s qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $112,500 to $155,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range
Remote Worker Considerations Candidates who are selected for this position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This remote/WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network (minimum internet download of 50 Mbps and 10 Mbps upload speed).
Responsibilities
- Implement and manage Azure database services, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and performance optimization in line with best practices.
- Utilize Azure DevOps for continuous integration and delivery pipelines, infrastructure as code, and proactive monitoring and alerting of database environments.
- Serve as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) focusing on the reliability and maintainability of database services, applying engineering solutions to operations problems.
- Oversee database server installations, patching, and upgrades, including clustered server environments, ensuring compliance with the latest security standards.
- Conduct database maintenance following best practices; including index rebuilds, updating distribution statistics and performing database consistency checks.
- Manage backups, recovery procedures, and conduct regular recovery testing and verification to guarantee data integrity and availability.
- Perform database performance tuning activities; such as analyzing MS SQL query plans, index tuning, troubleshooting database blocking, and resolving deadlocks.
- Develop high availability strategies including clustering and availability groups.
- Participates in 24x7x365 on-call support rotation, addressing critical issues promptly and efficiently.
- Execute routine performance and availability testing on database servers to ensure scalability, resiliency, and capacity of all applications.
- Assists in the architecture of database systems for high-volume database applications with high availability applications, optimizing for Azure environments.
- Travels to company sites as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a production MS-SQL DBA.
- Experience in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
- Expert knowledge of database security best practices.
- Strong knowledge and experience with monitoring, designing database objects, and optimizing objects to improve overall database performance.
- Working knowledge of modern data network technologies, enterprise storage technologies, (SAN, NAS, etc.), server consolidation technologies, server virtualization technologies, and disaster recovery technologies.
- Familiarity with Azure databases, Azure Cosmos DB, and other Azure services.
- Experience with SQL Server version 2016 and above.
- Ability to design, deploy, and manage databases in the Azure cloud.
- Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines, IaaS, PaaS, and automated deployments.
- Proficiency in creating and managing release pipelines.
- Understanding of SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) principles and practices.
- Proven ability to design efficient and scalable database schemas.
- Ability to improve system availability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Experience with monitoring, incident response, and learning from failures.
- Ability to display excellent customer service to meet the needs and expectations of both internal and external customers.
- Excellent listening and interpersonal communication skills to identify critical core competencies based on success factors and organizational environment.
- Demonstrated accuracy and productivity in a changing environment with constant interruptions.
