Job Description

About Syapse

Syapse is a real-world evidence company on a mission to improve outcomes for all cancer patients. By integrating complete, longitudinal, and continuously updated real-world patient data, we provide unique insights into patients’ care journeys. Our advantage derives from a decade of partnership with the world’s largest Learning Health Network of innovation-driven healthcare systems.

Syapse enables providers to operationalize precision medicine and deliver the best care today to their patients while helping life sciences companies and regulators accelerate the development and approval of new therapies for patients tomorrow.  Together we are working toward a future in which all cancer patients have access to the best precision care.

About the role

You will be an engineer on a team that is responsible for the ingestion of both important and complex clinical and molecular data. You’ll be operating on the bleeding edge of the Syapse service architecture, taking on new and unfamiliar problems and seeing their solutions through to completion.

You will be asked to come in and help standardize the ingestion of health system clinical and molecular data at scale. You will use cutting-edge cloud technologies to make an impact in the oncology space that will impact patients’ lives.

What You’ll Accomplish

Data is a crucial ingredient in the delivery of precision medicine. From standardized NAACCR registry data to FHIR/HL7 interfaces at leading oncology centers to highly customized integrations with third-party partners, the Data Acquisition team’s mission at Syapse is to acquire data reliably at a scale no matter where it resides and deliver it to the Syapse data platform.

You will get an opportunity to own and lead data projects end to end. As a key technical member responsible for data ingestion and normalization you’ll work on the front lines of one of our most critical technical challenges as we lead the way to a future where every cancer patient has access to Precision Medicine.

Things you’ll accomplish in your first year:

  • Standardize clinical and molecular data ingestion pipelines to handle variability in source data and rapidly ingest complex oncology data sets.
  • Redesign and develop clinical data ingestion stores to streamline and accelerate data ingestion.
  • Build Custom APIs for clinical data exchange. (e.g. FHIR)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop our interoperability platform to ingest clinical and lab data at scale.
  • Design and develop customization for Interface Engine.
  • Eliminate unscaled, non-value-added work; and reduce operational work through self-service and automation.
  • Work with technical experts and partners in infrastructure, applications, customer relationships, and implementation to deliver reliable services and meet customer expectations.

About You:

  • 3+ years of professional experience with interface engines such as Cloverleaf, Mirth, or similar technologies.
  • Understanding of healthcare data workflows.
  • Knowledge of tiered applications, middleware, database systems, and supporting components physical, virtual, and cloud.
  • Basic programming skills in Python, Java, TCL, or related languages
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases

Bonus points for:

  • Specific knowledge of clinical, pathology, and molecular lab reporting data workflows.
  • Experience working with FHIR, HL7, CCDA, etc…
  • Cloverleaf certification level 1
  • Experience with Big Data AWS cloud technologies

Compensation:

The target base salary for this position is $135,000-$160,000

This base salary is only a part of a total compensation package that includes: an annual performance bonus based on personal and company performance, robust benefits, 401k with match, and flexible PTO. Individual pay may vary from the target range as a number of factors including market forces, experience, location, disparities in market data and other relevant business considerations may all factor into final compensation.
