VP, Software Engineering – Core | Dropbox | Remote Canada
Job Description
As the VP of Engineering for the Core Business at Dropbox, you will be a key leader responsible for the overall success of our engineering initiatives for our core products. You will report directly to General Manager for Core and play a pivotal role in shaping the engineering direction of the company. In this role, you will have end-to-end ownership of product engineering and will partner closely with product, growth, sales, marketing, and design teams. You will lead the engineering teams responsible for the development of all of our core products including FSS, DocSend, Sign, Replay, and Capture for personal, professional, and team use. We’ve built a top-tier product engineering team and are seeking a visionary leader to guide our next phase of growth.
- You will lead and inspire a world-class engineering organization, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- You will lead the team in balancing urgency vs. the incredibly high quality bar expected by both our customers and the broader Dropbox organization, through clear and repeatable engineering processes
- You will partner closely with Dropbox Core leadership across all functions, including Product, Growth, Design, Platform, GTM and Support to manage success of cross-functional relationships and initiatives
- You will own Dropbox Core’s technical strategy and create a culture of strong technical ownership, resulting in highly reliable products and services at scale
- You will set technical direction, make critical architectural decisions, and ensure the successful delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance software solutions
- You will own the delivery of business strategy, and work with executive teams to set business strategy each year
- 12+ years of engineering experience in a medium or large software company including 6+ years managing high performance teams
- Experience managing engineering teams similar in size to our 400 person engineering organization
- Ability to balance business delivery with engineering quality, strong business acumen, and a keen eye for data-driven decision making, and a knack for managing both immediate needs and long-term investments.
- Strong technical craft mastery and engineering discipline
- Deep organization capabilities, especially in regards to influence, collaboration and communication
- Experience building a high performing culture a must
- B2C experience at a product led growth company
- Start up and growth experience leading fast growing engineering teams with a set of sub teams and managers
- Experience managing full-stack (mobile, platform & product) engineering organizations at SaaS companies
- Experience leading an engineering department through a transformation phase
- Experience at both large (1000+) companies and SaaS start-ups (< 200)
- Experience with acquisitions, both from the acquire and acquired side
- Experience managing remote / virtual-first teams
