SUMMARY

The Operational Risk Analyst evaluates and forecasts potential risk events and losses, while determining solutions to minimize or eliminate risks. The position performs risk analysis in order to maintain maximum protection of the Bank’s assets. The Operational Risk Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer and the Risk Manager in managing the operational risk for the Bank’s Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework. The Operational Risk Analyst will provide subject matter expertise on operational risks, inclusive of cybersecurity risk, general business continuity risks, legal risk, reputational and emerging risks that may impact the Bank.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer and the Risk Manager in the interpretation of policies and regulatory requirements and application of operational risk management activities across the Bank. ​
  • Contribute to operational risk-related policies to ensure that the application of risk, regulatory, and legislative requirements are in line with business strategy and risk appetite. ​
  • Monitor and escalate operational risks, control weaknesses and risk events including undertaking operational risk assurance activities across the Bank. 
  • Support the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer with preparing accurate, timely, and relevant risk management reports for Executive Management and the Risk Committee of the Board. ​
  • Develop, monitor, and report on key risk indicators and collate operational risk metrics for risk reports. ​
  • Ensure appropriate review of the financial impact of operational risk events, root cause, and business impact analysis. ​
  • Monitor, review, and communicate the impact on the risk profile of future initiatives, including new product assessments, changes to strategies, and major business changes. ​
  • Stay abreast of and report on current industry standards and emerging risks that may affect the Bank and keep management informed of operational risk developments. ​ Participate in targeted organization-wide training and awareness sessions on an on-going basis. ​
  • Participate in operational risk information selection and sharing with other areas of the Bank.
  • Assist with the updating and maintenance of the risk registers for the bank. ​
  • Assist in the recording, monitoring and investigation of operational risk events. ​
  • Engage with risk owners and the wider business to promote the best risk management practices and improve the risk culture across their respective areas. ​
  • Participate in targeted organization-wide training and awareness sessions on an on-going basis.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance, Risk Management, Financial Management or equivalent qualifications
  • Three (3) years risk related experience and or training in a financial services institution. 
  • Experience in banking, and/or sound understanding of the functioning of financial institutions would be considered an asset
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) would be an asset or other similar certification

  • Good knowledge of risk management practices
  • Good knowledge of applicable statutory, legislative, regulatory standards, and prudential guidelines.
  • Good knowledge of the banking environment
  • Good understanding of the products and services of the Bank
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Bank’s policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant banking applications
  • Good knowledge of the Bank’s Business continuity plan
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
  • Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment
