ABSC is seeking a IT Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Air Force National Capital Region (AFNCR) Information Technology Services (ITS2) program. This position will help deliver secure, resilient technology supporting Air Force operations across the National Capital Region.

As a IT Systems Engineer, you will design, implement, administer, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure supporting the Air Force mission. This position requires extensive hands-on experience with enterprise virtualization technologies, particularly VMware and Nutanix, within highly regulated Department of Defense environments.

You will collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, network, infrastructure, operations, and program teams to develop secure, reliable technical solutions that meet mission, operational, and cybersecurity requirements.

This position is 100% onsite at Joint Base Andrews in Camp Springs, Maryland, during core hours between 7:30am and 2:00pm. Ad-hoc telework may occasionally be available based on Government approval and mission requirements.

Responsibilities

The Senior IT Systems Engineer will support activities including:

  • Design, implement, manage, and monitor existing and new information systems within the NMCC
  • Design, implement, administer, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure and virtualization environments.
  • Engineer and support VMware and Nutanix environments, including associated compute, storage, network, and security components.
  • Install, configure, administer, upgrade, and maintain VMware virtual infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain Nutanix technologies, including AOS, AHV, Prism, and Flow.
  • Design and maintain computing infrastructure necessary to support mission and operational requirements.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows Server and Linux operating environments.
  • Analyze system performance, infrastructure capacity, availability, and reliability and recommend improvements.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex virtualization, server, storage, networking, integration, and performance issues.
  • Establish and maintain system and network configurations consistent with DoD cybersecurity and Information Assurance requirements.
  • Implement and manage systems in accordance with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and NIST SP 800-171 requirements.
  • Support infrastructure modernization, system upgrades, technology refreshes, migrations, and lifecycle-management activities.
  • Support the integration, installation, testing, deployment, sustainment, and lifecycle management of new and existing infrastructure solutions.
  • Analyze customer and mission requirements and recommend appropriate system architecture, infrastructure, hardware, software, and virtualization solutions.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture diagrams, network diagrams, engineering plans, configurations, implementation documentation, SOPs, and other technical artifacts.
  • Support Assessment and Authorization activities by developing and maintaining required engineering and system documentation.
  • Support configuration and change-management processes and ensure infrastructure and associated configuration items are properly documented and maintained.
  • Coordinate with customers, mission partners, cybersecurity personnel, network administrators, system administrators, data-center personnel, vendors, and program offices.
  • Assist with outage resolution and after-hours troubleshooting to maintain system availability, reliability, and mission readiness.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • An active DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 12 years of related experience; a master’s degree with a minimum of 10 years of related experience; or additional relevant experience that may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 10 years of infrastructure-engineering experience with a strong focus on VMware and/or Nutanix environments.
  • A current DoD 8140 IAT Level II or higher certification, such as CompTIA Security+.
  • An active VMware Certified Professional certification, version 6.0 or higher.
  • An active Nutanix Certified Professional or Nutanix Certified Systems Engineer certification.
  • Verifiable experience working within a DoD or defense-contractor environment.
  • Strong understanding of the operational, mission, and cybersecurity requirements associated with DoD environments.
  • Deep knowledge of enterprise virtualization technologies, including VMware and Nutanix.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with Nutanix AOS, AHV, Prism, and Flow.
  • Proficiency administering and troubleshooting Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing systems compliant with DISA STIGs and NIST SP 800-171.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective technical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, cybersecurity, network, infrastructure, operations, and program teams.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Willingness to provide on-call or after-hours support when required by mission needs.
  • Experience with infrastructure-automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including switching, VLANs, firewalls, and micro-segmentation.
  • Experience working within air-gapped or classified network environments, including SIPRNet.
  • Experience supporting virtual desktop infrastructure using Omnissa.
  • Knowledge of the Air Force, Pentagon, and/or AFNCR mission and operating environments.
  • Previous experience working at Joint Base Andrews, the Pentagon, and/or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.

Salary is commensurate with experience. An approximate salary range for this requisition is $90k to $180k annual. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include, but are not limited to, responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement, if any, or other law.
