The Chief Medical Officer provides leadership and strategic oversight over all organizational activities and functions related to medical interventions, policies clinical guidance, and quality and safety, dissemination and implementation of best practices in the provision of women’s health care. They will work under the direction of the CEO and alongside and in collaboration with organizational leadership and staff, as well as other ACOG departments and divisions, and with external strategic partners.

  • Develops long and short-term tactics for ACOG’s work in clinical guidance, heath equity, and quality and safety, dissemination and implementation of best practices in alignment with our mission, vision, operational objectives, and strategic plans.
  • Ensures all guidance-related programs and activities remain accurate, current, and meet the needs of the membership.
  • Ensures that health equity is addressed in all guidance and programmatic work in collaboration with Sr Director of Health Equity and Transformation.
  • In collaboration with the leadership, this position assists in the identification of opportunities to improve the overall patient care experience by selecting and adopting evidence-based medicine guidance and protocols, evaluating uptake and implementation.
  • Actively oversees and participates in committees and subject matter experts involved with creation of clinical guidance and other content developed within the division.
  • Oversees financial aspects related to key activities for the division, including development and administration of the budget, as well as, coordinating with the finance department to develop business plans for new activities or programs in the division.
  • Oversees all clinically focused grant and cooperative agreement-supported activities and programs related to development of clinical guidance, health equity, and quality and safety, including development and dissemination of products and deliverables of these activities and programs and financial aspects to include budgeting and reporting
  • Actively involved in new product development and translation of best practice guidelines for consumer audiences
  • Actively involved in all levels of communicating guidance
  • Actively involved in streamlining activities to improve efficiency and streamline programs. Setting SMART goals and using lean principles the incumbent is continually improving processes and working directly with teams to enhance their effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of staff, including fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment through supervising staff, providing feedback, coaching, support, mentoring, performance management, and training and development opportunities as appropriate.
  • Lead clinical contact for FIGO, and international medical societies.
  • Lead clinical contact to enhance relationships with non ob gyn women’s healthcare professionals and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ease with technology, willingness to adopt social media presence and explore future of AI in clinical guidance
  • Willingness to work with products and marketing teams to develop new products and services.
  • Deep understanding of need to develop metrics and mechanisms to prioritize programs to advance overall mission.
  • Demonstrated track record of hiring, managing and mentoring staff members. This involves holding people accountable, resolving conflicts, active participation in annual performance evaluations and providing professional development opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills—oral, written, and listening skills—and a bridge builder who can develop relationships and build trust and credibility with a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to foster diverse, inclusive, and welcoming work environments, and provide strategic direction and leadership to multiple constituencies.
  • Ability to inspire confidence and create trust, including appropriately handling confidential information.
  • Strong commitment to ACOG’s mission and advancing health initiatives for those seeing Ob/Gyn care
  • Ability to travel as needed, approximately 25%.
  • The office is based in DC. Minimum of 60% of time in the office required.
  • Active member of ACOG in good standing
  • MD or DO degree and Board-Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a senior health care leadership position ie in Dept of OB GYN, hospital, health system private or non-profit healthcare entity. Experience in medical practice management preferred, with comprehensive understanding of the following: effective medical practice and management skills, development and implementation of evidence-based clinical practice, patient safety and quality improvement programs and activities, inclusive excellence programs and activities, deep understanding of health equity and structural barriers to improving heath outcomes, experience with process improvement. Understanding of regulatory requirements and administration of grants and cooperative agreements. Experience with public speaking.
  • Minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience. Must have budget management experience.
  • Experience in financial analysis, operations, strategic clinical program planning. Excellent analytic skills, experience in solving complex problems, demonstrating creative and innovative thinking, and incorporating external and internal best practices in providing solutions.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Experience working in an environment serving underrepresented patients.
  • Experience with non-profit associations preferred.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors preferred.
