At Aeon, our Building Technicians play a vital role in delivering on our mission by creating communities where residents feel safe, respected, and proud to call home.

 

Aeon is seeking a Building Technician to join the team at Exodus, a new 72-home permanent supportive housing community in Downtown Minneapolis. Developed in partnership with St. Olaf Catholic Church, Exodus will provide deeply affordable studio apartments for individuals transitioning out of homelessness.

 

The Building Technician is responsible for keeping Exodus clean, safe, and welcoming for residents, staff, and visitors. This is a hands-on role focused primarily on cleaning and property upkeep, with groundskeeping, trash removal, apartment turns, and basic maintenance responsibilities.

 

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, notices what needs attention, and can manage daily responsibilities with limited direction. This is a full-time, Monday–Friday position with no on-call responsibilities.

The Building Technician reports directly to the Property Manager.

 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

The completion of assigned cleaning, groundskeeping, trash removal, and light maintenance duties, including:

 

  • Keep hallways, community spaces, offices, restrooms, and other shared areas clean, sanitary, and welcoming.
  • Complete regular cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, sanitizing, and cleaning glass and other building surfaces.
  • Pay attention to the condition of the property throughout the day and address cleaning or upkeep needs as they arise.

 

  • Collect and remove trash from common areas, grounds, and other designated areas and keep dumpster and trash areas clean.
  • Pick up litter and debris and maintain clean, welcoming entrances, walkways, and exterior areas.
  • Complete routine groundskeeping and other outdoor property upkeep.
  • Assist with seasonal work, including light snow removal and salting or sanding walkways.

 

  • Complete basic maintenance tasks such as snaking toilets, changing light bulbs and furnace filters, replacing smoke detector batteries, and installing blinds.
  • Help prepare vacant apartment homes for new residents by completing assigned cleaning and minor repair work.
  • Identify maintenance or property concerns and communicate needs that require additional repair or support.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner and keep the Property Manager informed of issues that may affect the property or residents.

Additional qualifications include:

  • At least 1 year of professional cleaning or janitorial experience.
  • Ability to complete cleaning, groundskeeping, trash removal, and basic maintenance work independently and efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to communicate and work respectfully with residents, coworkers, partners, and others from different backgrounds and experiences.
  • Must have a commitment to learning and participating in Aeon's diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
  • Must be a resourceful, problem solving, relationship-building, seeker of excellence.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, climb, bend and kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to conduct property tours and inspections: Includes walking through hallways, stairwells, leasing offices, common areas, and vacant or occupied apartment homes. This may involve navigating multiple floors and uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to reach above and below the shoulders.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp, twist and pull.
  • Ability to withstand external weather conditions such as working outside in the rain, cold, heat or other adverse weather.
  • Ability to quickly respond to sights and sounds that may pose a threat to persons or property.

What We Offer

This position pays $20-$22 per hour depending on experience and skillset. Aeon offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, retirement plan, generous paid time off, and an employee assistance program. In addition, Building Technicians at Aeon have NO On-Call!

 

This full-time position follows a Monday – Friday schedule from 8:30am-5pm. Flexibility may be required to meet the needs of the role, including occasional adjustments for resident events, community activities, meetings, or other property-related responsibilities. This is an in-person role based at the assigned property, with occasional work at Aeon's Central Office, training facilities, or other properties as needed.
