AFL Global is seeking an experienced Construction Manager II to oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of hyperscale and enterprise data center construction projects. This role is responsible for managing field operations, subcontractors, project schedules, budgets, safety compliance, and quality standards while serving as the primary point of contact between AFL, clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a solid understanding of data center infrastructure, and the ability to manage multiple project phases in fast-paced construction environments.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Manage all phases of data center construction projects from pre-construction through closeout.
- Coordinate construction activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Monitor project schedules, milestones, and deliverables and provide regular status updates to leadership and clients.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and scope documents to ensure compliance.
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Direct daily construction activities and oversee subcontractors, vendors, and site personnel.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to quality standards and project specifications.
- Coordinate material deliveries and manage site logistics.
- Resolve field issues and construction challenges efficiently to minimize project delays.
- Verify completion of work packages and support project closeout activities.
- Serve as the primary liaison between AFL, clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings and provide updates on project progress, risks, and schedule impacts.
- Maintain positive working relationships with customer representatives and project teams.
- Support change management processes and customer requests.
- Monitor project budgets, forecasts, change orders, and cost controls.
- Review and approve subcontractor invoices and payment applications.
- Track labor utilization and project expenses.
- Assist leadership in financial reporting and project profitability reviews.
- Ensure compliance with AFL safety policies, OSHA regulations, and customer site requirements.
- Lead safety meetings, site audits, and toolbox talks.
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability among all site personnel.
- Investigate and document incidents and corrective actions as required.
- Implement quality control processes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct inspections and ensure all work meets customer and industry standards.
- Manage punch list activities and project turnover documentation.
- Support commissioning and operational readiness activities.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Minimum 5+ years of construction management experience, with at least 2+ years supporting data center, mission-critical, industrial, or large-scale commercial construction projects.
- Experience managing subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and client relationships.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, safety practices, and project controls.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center projects.
- Knowledge of electrical, fiber, structured cabling, low-voltage, and network infrastructure systems.
- OSHA 30 Certification.
- PMP, CCM, or equivalent construction/project management certifications.
- Experience with Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar project management tools.
- Familiarity with commissioning and turnover processes for mission-critical facilities.
- Ability to work in active construction environments.
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to wear required PPE and comply with site-specific safety policies.
- Travel up to 75%–100% based on project location and business needs.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and rotational schedules as project demands require.
