Spligitty Fiber, a division of AFL Global, is seeking an experienced Splicer II to support fiber optic network construction, maintenance, and restoration projects. The Splicer II is responsible for performing fusion splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of fiber optic cable systems in a data center, outdoor and indoor environments. This role requires a strong understanding of fiber optic technologies, network infrastructure, and safety practices while working independently or as part of a construction team.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in OSP and ISP fiber environments and possess the technical skills necessary to ensure high-quality fiber installations that meet customer and project specifications.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Perform fusion splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables.
- →Prepare and splice fiber optic cables in aerial, underground, and indoor environments.
- →Install, maintain, and troubleshoot fiber optic infrastructure.
- →Conduct OTDR, power meter, and loss testing to verify network performance and integrity.
- →Interpret fiber design documents, splice schematics, and network drawings.
- →Complete fiber optic testing documentation and as-built records accurately.
- →Locate, diagnose, and repair fiber network outages and service disruptions.
- →Install and organize fiber panels, patch panels, splice closures, and distribution cabinets.
- →Ensure all work is completed according to customer specifications, project requirements, and industry standards.
- →Maintain company-issued vehicles, tools, test equipment, and splicing trailers.
- →Assist with emergency restoration activities, including after-hours support when required.
- →Coordinate with construction crews, foremen, project managers, and customers to ensure project success.
- →Support project closeout activities, including final documentation and quality assurance reviews.
- →Follow all AFL Global, Spligitty Fiber, OSHA, and customer-specific safety requirements.
Requirements
~1 min read- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years of fiber optic splicing experience.
- Experience with fusion splicing equipment and fiber testing tools.
- Ability to read and interpret utility prints, splice matrices, and network diagrams.
- Knowledge of underground, aerial, and inside plant fiber construction methods.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel extensively as required by project needs.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certifications or equivalent industry certifications.
- Experience with data center, broadband, FTTH, utility, or telecom network projects.
- Bucket truck experience.
- CDL preferred but not required.
- Experience using OTDR, EXFO, Viavi, or similar fiber testing equipment.
- Knowledge of telecom construction safety practices and industry standards.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to work on ladders, in manholes, and from bucket trucks when required.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Strong fusion splicing and troubleshooting abilities.
- Understanding of fiber optic network architecture and design.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
