Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification

  • At least two years of acute-care hospital experience

  • Current Basic Life Support certification

  • Demonstrated competency in providing direct patient care

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English

  • Computer literacy and ability to complete required electronic documentation

  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned group of patients under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse

  • Assist patients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, repositioning, feeding, and other activities of daily living

  • Measure and document vital signs, intake and output, weight, and other assigned patient information

  • Observe patients and promptly report changes in condition, behavior, or safety concerns to the supervising nurse

  • Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and preparation of patient rooms

  • Support fall-prevention, infection-control, skin-integrity, and other patient-safety measures

  • Transport patients, specimens, equipment, and supplies as assigned

  • Maintain clean, safe, and properly stocked patient-care areas

  • Preserve patient dignity, privacy, comfort, and confidentiality

  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, support personnel, and other members of the interdisciplinary team

  • Follow NIH clinical procedures, safety requirements, and professional standards

  • Float to another patient-care unit when needed and appropriately trained

Required Training

Selected candidates will receive training in:

  • Patient Care Technician competencies

  • Crisis Prevention Training

  • Unit-specific clinical procedures and safety requirements

Additional Requirements

Selected candidates must satisfy NIH onboarding, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. Certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
