Akicita Federal is hiring Painters to support facility maintenance and upkeep operations for the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHCS) in Montgomery, AL. In this role, you will help ensure that the VA's clinical and administrative spaces remain safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for veterans and staff across the Montgomery and Tuskegee campuses. You will work as part of a skilled trades team delivering hands-on painting and surface preparation services five days a week in a mission-driven healthcare environment.

- Apply coating materials using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and specialty graining devices to interior and exterior surfaces throughout VA medical facilities
- Prepare surfaces for painting by smoothing, filling, leveling, and shaping using pumice, rottenstone, metal resins, and synthetic compounds
- Repair and alter paintable surfaces including walls, floors, ceilings, windows, and doors to maintain facility appearance and structural integrity
- Execute coating techniques that meet established thickness, levelness, and decorative appearance standards
- Remove existing wallpaper and properly prepare underlying surfaces for new paint or finish applications
- Rotate between the Montgomery and Tuskegee VA campuses as operational needs require, maintaining the same quality of work at both sites
- Respond to overtime needs as directed, supporting urgent facility maintenance requirements when they arise
What sets candidates apart:
- Prior experience working in a healthcare, government, or institutional facility environment
- Familiarity with VA or federal facility maintenance standards and safety protocols
- Experience with specialty coating applications such as anti-microbial or epoxy finishes common in medical settings
- Comfortable working in occupied buildings and around patients, clinical staff, and medical equipment
- Previous work on large multi-building campuses requiring coordination across multiple work sites
