The Department of Surgery provides comprehensive and sub-specialty care in Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Pediatrics Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, and Vascular Surgery. The department has 90 full-time and part-time faculty with a solid commitment to teaching and research. Formal structured undergraduate teaching, postgraduate residency, and fellowship programmes are integrated into the academic functions of the department.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Senior Instructor/ Assistant Professor, Adult Cardiac Surgery. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced surgeon to join our dynamic and expanding program. This is a full-time faculty position with opportunities for clinical leadership, academic growth, and collaborative practice.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

• Provide independent consultant-level surgical services in adult cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valvular, aortic, and other complex adult cardiac procedures.

• Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, mentorship, supervision, and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.

• Contribute to clinical research, publications, presentations, and other academic and scholarly activities.

• Actively engage in multidisciplinary team (MDT) planning and collaborative management of complex cardiac patients, including participation in cardiac conferences and perioperative decision-making.

• Participate in and contribute to clinical audit, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality and patient-safety initiatives within adult cardiac surgery.

• Support the development and strengthening of adult cardiac surgical services, including evidence-based clinical protocols and pathways.

Requirements:

You should have:

• Minimum 2 years of experience with post fellowship (FCPS) in Cardiac Surgery for the position of Senior Instructor with evidence of scholarship through research, publications, and/or contributions to education.

• Applicants for Assistant Professor should have two years’ of experience as Senior Instructor with evidence of scholarship through research, publications, and/or contributions to education.

• Fellowship or certification (FCPS, FRCS, American Board, or equivalent) with completed postgraduate training in a recognised cardiac surgery program.

• Significant independent consultant-level experience in adult cardiac surgery, with demonstrated expertise across a broad spectrum of procedures, including coronary, valvular, and other complex adult cardiac surgical procedures.

• Experience in the assessment, perioperative management, and surgical care of adult cardiac patients, including complex and high-risk cases.

• active participation in regular clinical audit

• supervisory experience in guiding junior staff research

• relevant higher degree preferred.
