The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Manager, Donor Relations. Working as a member of the Development department, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease through research, education, and advocacy.

The Manager, Donor Relations is a motivated leader focused on facilitating growth and relationship development of individual donors in support of the ALA nationwide revenue and mission goals. This role will develop and manage a portfolio of mid-level giving donors by initiating, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with individual donors who make annual contributions between $500-1,999. 

  • Nationwide: If near an office location, this role will be hybrid and require a minimum of two days per week in the office. We are also considering remote applicants and encourage candidates in any location in the United States to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a personal portfolio of approximately 400 mid-level donors.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit new prospects for the mid-level program. 
  • Identify major gift and planned giving prospects from personal portfolio.
  • In collaboration with Senior Development Manager, achieve personal and overall mid-level giving revenue goals.
  • Use ROI database to record and plan for individual donor communications.
  • Collaborate with other members of the ALA Individual Giving team, field staff, and others, including key volunteers, to identify current donors with the capacity to increase their support. 
  • Learn about all aspects of the American Lung Association and effectively communicate programs and projects effectively to donors.
  • Conduct oneself professionally as an American Lung Association representative.
  • Record all donor actions/contact in the donor database in a timely manner.
  • Assist in drafting written materials as needed. 
  • Meet with Senior Development Manager weekly to discuss progress, etc.
  • Create quarterly reports for the Chief Development Officer to update on progress towards personal portfolio goals.
  • All other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. 
  • Five or more years fundraising experience. 
  • Proven track record of soliciting mid-level gifts from individuals.
  • Proven track record of developing relationships with individual donors. 
  • Goal oriented, independent, focused self-starter.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional listener with ability to understand needs and motivations of others, find common ground and build trust with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to represent mission and nonprofit programs in detail with passion and knowledge. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong, time management and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. 
  • Commitment to, and passion for, the Lung Association’s mission. 
  • Excellent research and prospecting skills. 
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license and your own reliable transportation with the ability to travel within assigned area 15% of the time for meetings and conferences, as well as the flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required. 
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. (event supplies)
