Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite mortgage loans for compliance with agency, investor, and internal guidelines 
  • Review credit, income, assets, tax returns, appraisals, title, insurance, fraud tools — and deliver clear, accurate credit decisions 
  • Document precise income and asset calculations and articulate well‑supported approval rationale 
  • Issue conditions and final decisions within established SLAs 
  • Review and clear conditions with accuracy and urgency 
  • Support pre‑funding audits, investor audits, and review‑desk inquiries 
  • Partner with Loan Officers, Processors, and Closers to ensure smooth, timely closings 
  • Stay current on guideline updates, regulatory changes, and industry best practices 
  • Contribute to QC reviews and continuous improvement across the department

What You’ll Need:

  • 5+ years current/recent frontline mortgage underwriting experience 
  • DE and/or SAR certifications preferred
  • Deep knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, and Jumbo guidelines
  • Proficiency in LOS/AUS platforms (Encompass, DU, LPA)
  • Strong analytical, credit, and risk assessment skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to stay sharp in a high volume environment
  • A proactive, solutions focused mindset with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • High-speed internet required for remote work, Cable or Fiber ONLY with the ability to connect via Ethernet. Minimum speeds: 70/30 Mbps (basic), 200-300/35-70 Mbps (shared), 500-1,000/100+ Mbps (heavy use).

**Please note that the compensation and benefit information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to applicable state and local laws on pay transparency. It is estimated based on what a successful applicant in the relevant state might be paid. **   

Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position ranges between $28 - $38 per hour plus bonus based upon individual performance. Annualized target compensation ranges from $67,000 - $140,000.
