- This Job Description provides a description of the duties for which the Mechanical Assembler I will be accountable and responsible. The intent of this Job Description is to enable the Employee to be successful within the chain of command, by promoting transparent, effective, efficient, and quality corporate operations. Other duties may be assigned to the Mechanical Assembler I from time to time: these additional duties will be communicated directly from the Fit-up/Assembly Supervisor or Plant Manager.
Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Perform all duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or technician to which the Assembler I is assigned. This includes, but is not limited to material handling, abrasive metal cleaning, sweeping, washing, general helper duties.
- →Position and align parts in specified relationship to each other in jig, fixture, or other holding device.
- →Keep work area tidy and orderly.
- →Crimp, stake, screw, bolt, rivet, weld, cement, press fit, or perform similar operations to join or secure parts in place.
- →Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products.
- →Use and maintain safety equipment as required.
- →Ensure that all problems with equipment and machinery are promptly reported to the Maintenance Department for corrective action. Halt production on equipment and machinery if they cannot be safely operated.
- →The Mechanical Assembler I must be trained in the proper use of material handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes. Must know and follow requirements for the proper storage and allocation of supplies and material. Must also be trained in company safety requirements.
- →Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
- →Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Vital Link International Standards Organization (ISO9000) policies and correct and report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.
- Be familiar with and understand Vital Link Quality Policy and company objectives.
- Understand required ISO9000 specific Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Complete all records required by Procedures and Work Instructions.
- Participate in Vital Link Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate.
- Participate in ISO9000 training as required.
- Cooperate with Auditors.
- Report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); a minimum 2 years experience with Metal fabrication or assembly shop experience is preferred; or combination of education and experience.
- Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, stoop, crouch, bend, walk and routinely lift and/or move up to (50) pounds.)
- Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. Should have the ability to operate hand and power tools required to perform general labor activities. Must have the ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with other personnel.
- Should be able to properly lift moderate and heavy steel parts, equipment, and supplies on a routine basis.
- Typical lifting requirements will not exceed fifty (50) pounds.
- The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, climbing, bending, reaching, lifting, and walking.
- This position will be working primarily outdoors and in an open shop in all types of weather. This position is exposed to heavy amounts of potentially hazardous dust and fumes requiring the use of safety glasses and protective clothing is required.
- Noise level in the work environment is often quite high, which may often require hearing protection.
- Usually eight (8) hour workdays (5) days per week are required. Occasional Saturday and Sunday work, or overtime, may be required to accommodate special business circumstances.
- Extended work hours and/or travel may occasionally be required.
