Athena Group Advisors (“Athena”) is the dedicated multi-family office of a life sciences and biotech investment firm.

 

Athena is seeking a Family Office Associate to join our dynamic and expanding team. This role reports to the Director of Finance.  

Candidates must be familiar with family office / high-net-worth clients and possess the ability and resourcefulness to proactively manage their day-to-day responsibilities, and actively problem-solve to achieve high-impact desired results. With the support of the firm, you’ll have the opportunity to develop and pursue creative approaches to resolve client issues.

The Family Office Associate will be responsible for providing comprehensive financial analysis to support the strategic decision-making of our high-net-worth clients and their families. You will assist with the timely communication and execution of financial management strategies, including but not limited to cash management, asset protection and insurance, and philanthropic initiatives, with a focus on precision and providing a high-touch, seamless experience for the client.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Accounting and Reporting
    • Support the management of third-party accountants in routine monthly close functions
    • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and recommendations for clients and the family office leadership team
    • Consolidate and report on all family assets, performance reporting, benchmark analysis, and maintain an online reporting system
  • Cash Management and Transaction Support
    • Monitor cash flows, liquidity needs, and short-term funding requirements
    • Oversee day-to-day cash management activities across clients’ accounts
    • Coordinate wire transfers, bill pay, and budget/expense tracking for clients
    • Identify and optimize cash positions in client accounts and identify recommended solutions (e.g., earning yields in treasuries, investing in funds)
    • Prepare documentation and assist with account opening,
    • Support transfers, subscriptions, redemptions, and other transactions
    • Work with the Director of Finance, Director of Tax, and relevant advisors to implement wealth transfer strategies and asset protection solutions
  • Foundation Support and Charitable Giving
    • Provide support for philanthropic initiatives
    • Oversee disbursement of funds for charitable foundations
    • Help with all necessary accounting, tax, and payroll functions
    • Assist with annual gifting and utilizing lifetime gift exemption
  • Miscellaneous
    • Assist with the coordination and oversight of third-party service providers, such as investment managers, accountants, and legal counsel
    • Work with financial institutions to obtain lending facilities such as credit lines and mortgages
    • Provide expertise and assistance to client teams to efficiently, accurately, and quickly respond to family office client needs and requests
    • Collaborate with the broader Athena team to expand and enhance family office services

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or related field
  • 4-6+ years of experience in a family office, wealth-management, or tax-related role
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, with proficiency in Excel and other data analysis tools
  • Successful candidates can manage multiple priorities, maintain complete confidentiality and exercise discretion, have superior judgment, work with many stakeholders, and thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment. Must understand urgency
  • Attention to detail, flexibility, and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive and collaborative attitude, highly reliable, responsible, and responsive
  • Ability to proactively anticipate needs and problem solve
  • Exceptional client service and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
  • Prior experience with Sage Intacct and Masttro and/or Addepar
  • CPA, CFP, and/or CFA helpful

 

What We Offer

The base salary for this New York-based position ranges from $125,000 to $150,000, depending on experience, skills, and responsibilities. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and the level at which the role is hired. In addition to the base salary, the role includes a discretionary incentive compensation program, and a full benefits package, including medical and life insurance, retirement plans, tax-free savings options, and access to other healthcare programs.
