We’re looking for a hands-on Survey Field Crew Chief to lead field crews across the DFW area. If you enjoy being outdoors, running jobs, mentoring teammates, and delivering high-quality survey work—this is your role.
Responsibilities
~1 min readLead daily field operations and keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and accurately:
- →Direct and mentor Instrument Persons and field staff
- →Perform and oversee:
- →Single-family platting
- →ALTA/NSPS surveys
- →Topographic (topo) surveys
- →Easement and boundary surveys
- →Construction staking & as-builts
- →Run control surveys, bench loops, and layout work
- →Interpret plans and identify potential field issues early
- →Coordinate with project managers, office staff, and site superintendents
- →Communicate with clients on-site (daily check-ins)
- →Maintain accurate field notes, sketches, and data files
- →Upload/download survey data and calibration files
- →Ensure equipment, trucks, and tools are maintained and job-ready
- 5–8+ years of survey field experience (Crew Chief or similar leadership role)
- Strong experience in construction staking and land development projects
- Solid understanding of survey equipment (Trimble/GPS/robotic total stations preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and survey plans
- Proven ability to lead crews and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Valid driver’s license
- Experience with single-family development work
- Attention to detail and pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work
- Ability to work independently while staying connected with the team
- Desire to mentor others and improve field processes
- Primarily outdoors across active construction sites
- Work in varying terrain and weather conditions
- Physical role (lifting equipment, walking sites, setting stakes, etc.)
- Overtime as needed to meet project deadlines
