The Administrative Director of Quality, Patient Safety is responsible for the system-wide function of quality, patient safety, infection control, medical staff credentialing, and risk and accreditation services for Augusta Health. The Administrative Director works with the senior management team, as well as medical staff leaders and the quality committees of the board to set strategic priorities within the quality management system, assess operations to ensure compliance, and guide the implementation of improvements in the above stated functions. The Administrative Director is accountable, in conjunction with the senior leadership, for leading the development, assessment, monitoring and evaluation of the quality management system and functional areas to support Augusta Health’s strategic vision, growth initiatives and leadership principles.

This position is responsible for implementing Augusta Health’s vision and strategy for excellence in clinical quality outcomes, value, risk and patient safety by cultivating a culture of quality and performance improvement that engages staff at all levels and in all departments. The Administrative Director of Quality, Patient Safety will provide leadership to an organizational quality improvement system that continuously evaluates and monitors quality against performance benchmarks from regional and national organizations. The position is responsible for leading, integrating activities, staff and budgets for quality, performance improvement, data analytics, oversight of risk and policy management and the medical malpractice self-insurance program, customer complaints, patient safety, claims and litigation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related medical field required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years progressive hospital/healthcare system operations and/or leadership experience as well as a strong, demonstrated track record in healthcare quality, safety and performance improvement.
  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership position manager or director level required.

  • Certification in Quality and/or Safety such as Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) preferred or obtained within 2 years.
  • Mastery of performance improvement, safety and change management methodologies and tools including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA), Microsystems, Team Training and Lean.
  • Possesses thorough understanding and knowledge of CMS standards.
  • Knowledge of Virginia DOH and Medicare CoP preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents including staff, leaders, medical staff and the community.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of and effectively able to use Microsoft products and other computer based programs as needed.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of general financial principles and procedures pertaining to budget development, monitoring and justification.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform high level conceptual analysis, formulate plans and implement.
  • Ability to summarize and prepare complex reports, memoranda and other written materials.
  • Understands, interprets and applies laws, rules, regulations and policies related to assigned areas.
  • Demonstrates commitment to customer service.
  • Proven/demonstrated leadership, communication and team-building abilities.
  • Ability to develop, lead, manage, coordinate and drive cross-functional teams to successful project outcomes.
