Position Overview:
The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Recreation - Fitness Instructor-Aerobics Part -Time Year-Round
The Fitness Instructor – Aerobics is a regular part-time position which is responsible for providing professional and motivating group fitness classes designed for a diverse population consisting of various fitness levels. The position leads various types of cardiovascular based exercises, strength training, and Yoga (variety of formats), including but not limited to; Pilates, Zumba, dance, spinning, kickboxing, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), basic step, and step intervals.

Essential Functions:
1. Demonstrates how to carry out various exercises and routines
2. Develops exercise plans and routines geared towards individual needs
3. Monitors and gears classes to the development and ability level of participants and their ability to properly perform class activities and provides alternative exercises during workouts or classes for different levels of fitness and skill
4. Explains and enforces rules and regulations and ensures safety measures are observed
5. Reports equipment damage or injuries and completed necessary reports and forms to supervisor within 24 hours
6. Records attendance of class participants
7. Enforces all general building policies and responds to emergency situations as required
8. Responsible for obtaining substitute instructors to cover shifts/classes when necessary

Qualifications
1. Knowledge of principles, practices, teaching methods and techniques that provide positive motivation
2. Knowledge of exercise science and a variety of resistance training programming, injury prevention and operation of necessary equipment
3. Skills in public relations and in all developmental stages
4. Ability to instruct the assigned class and control large groups of people
5. Ability to follow instructions and work with little supervision
6. Ability to remain current on the trends of the industry
7. Ability to effectively communicate and interact with class participants when teaching skills
8. Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper courses of action
9. Ability to learn and adhere to the facility emergency procedures
10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
11. Ability to use resources to enhance programs related to the specific population of the class
12. Responsible, punctual, requires minimal supervision and is neat in appearance
13. Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 3 months of hire
Special Requirements:
High School Diploma and certification from an accredited national institution required. At least one (1) year teaching experience required in a specialty area. Experience working as an aerobics instructor within a fitness or wellness facility preferred.
